Notes |
- In the 1930 census, she is shown as 8 years old. This gives some credence to the birth date of 1921 in the SSDI. In that 1930 census, she is the youngest child of Joe and Mary Mestas, beet workers in Madison Lake, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Joe is 64 and Mary is 48, they were both born in New Mexico and their race is shown as Mexican. Their ages when they were first married are 20 and 16. There were 5 other children in the family.
In the 1950 census, she is shown as age 28 and born in Texas. In that census, she is employed folding sheets in a laundry. She is married to Lawrence Pederson at that point and has two daughters with him. The family lives in south Minneapolis. Lawrence is a mechanic at an automobile garage.
One non-public family tree on Ancestry has the family name as Medrano, not Mestas. Frances’s death certificate shows her mother’s maiden name as Mestas. Frances’s oldest sister, Amelia, married a Medrano so that may be the source of the confusion.
Joe and Mary Mestas, with Adolph and Joe Jr., lived in Minneapolis at 619 17th Ave S. in 1944. Joe G., age 20, was an inmate at the St. Cloud State Reformatory at the time of the 1940 census. He had been born in Texas but was in rural Blue Earth County in 1935. Joseph G Mestas, b. 6 Apr 1920, died 3 Mar 1992 in South Lake Tahoe, California. Mary Mestas, b. 2 Jul 1882, died in Minneapolis in October of 1972. Joseph G. Mestas, b. 1865, died in Hennepin County in 1948.
