- The Laforêt/Laforest/Laforet family occupied, and claimed to own part of, Peche Island in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor. The Laforet family disputed Hiram Walker’s claim that the Laforets had voluntarily sold him their share of the island in the early 1880s.
