- According to daughter Bonnie: Went by Tom among family and most friends. Those from the Army and from the US Postal Service knew him as Jim. During WWII he served in England and France. He was severely wounded on July 17, 1944. During his service he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on July 17, 1944 in the European Theater of Operations. In his last years, he wrote out some of his memories from the war.
