- Gerda Qvale, 96, of rural Ray and more recently of the Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. at Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the Bethel Home activity room and burial will follow at Rainbow Valley Cemetery, north of Ray.
Gerda was born on the Dalseng Family homestead on Dec. 24, 1915, to Christ and Johanna (Holstad) Dalseng.
She was raised in the Lutheran Faith and with the traditions of the family farm and educated at the Rainbow Valley School and later graduated from Wildrose High School in 1933. She worked for a time as a young woman in Williston and was united in marriage to Arthur M. Qvale at the Lars Dahl home on Nov. 9, 1944.
The newlywed couple settled on the Qvale place in New Home Township in Williams County where they raised their three sons. Together they farmed and raised small grains and cattle.
Gerda was happy being a homemaker and she enjoyed all that the farm life had to offer.
Besides caring for her home, she enjoyed raising a garden and canning its goods.
She enjoyed spending time devoted to the Church of Rainbow Valley and its entire works.
She remained a member all of her life.
Gerda enjoyed all of the activities of her sons and her grandchildren and all that they were involved in; be it school, church or sports.
She is survived by her three sons and their families, Gerald (Marilyn) Qvale of Minot, Sanford (Carol) Qvale of Williston and Leslie (Monica) Qvale, of Larkspur, Colo.; six grandchildren, Brad (Cheri) Qvale, Elise (Dave) Qvale, Jacob (MaKenzie) Feil, Brian (Misty) Qvale, Brent Qvale and Abrianna Qvale; one sister; Margaret Dalseng; and four nieces and their families.
Gerda is also survived by her family of friends and staff at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home where she lived these past six years and was so well cared for in the Pine View Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur in 1998; brother, Alfred Dalseng; sister, Esther Oase; and most recently a stillborn infant of Jacob and MaKenzie Feil.
Memorials may be shared with the Rainbow Valley Cemetery Fund and to the charity of the donor’s choice.
