In the 1940 census, she and her husband and daughter live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in a rented house. Gordon is a wholesale feed salesman. Five years earlier the family lived in St. Paul. Gordon has has one year of college, Zoe is a high school graduate. She and Gordon lived at 3043 Thirteenth Avenue S. in Minneapolis at the time they announced the engagement of their daughter to Bernard George Black in May of 1946. She lived at 6870 7th St. NE, in Fridley, Minnesota, at the time of her death. Her daughter was Mrs. Bernard G. Black of Fridley, who had 5 children. Her sister was Mrs. H. P. Miller of Minneapolis. Her obit said that she had been a resident of Minneapolis for 50 years and was a graduate of South High. An article in the Minneapolis Tribune, 31 Jul 1966, notes: “A modest collection of daylilies has been started in the {University of Minnesota} arboretum as a memorial to Zoe L. Fossum.
