    Notes
    • In the 1930 census, he and “Ella L” farmed in Bridgewater Twp, Rice County. They had no children. He was shown as having first married at age 23.

From the Northfield News, June 27, 1930, as cited in Find A Grave:

All Northfield Community was saddened when it became known Saturday morning that Minard A. Koester, one of the best known and most highly respected young men of the community, had passed away. Mr. Koester had been suffering from cancer for several years, and in spite of all that medical skill and loving care could do for him, died at his home just south of this city early Saturday morning, June 21.

Minard Arthur Koester, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Koester, was born in Northfield township about five miles southeast of Northfield on October 26, 1893. As a boy he attended the rural school and was graduated from the Northfield High School with the class of 1913. Since graduating he has had charge of the farm which was his home and has been one of the most progressive and successful farmers of this region.

On June 21, 1927, he was married to Miss Della Pruett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Pruett of this city. Just a few months after his marriage the insidious disease which caused his death began to undermine his health and for the past year and a half his suffering has been intense, but through it all he has been cheerful and hopeful, even very recently looked forward to the time when he would regain his health. With remarkable Christian fortitude he bore his
cross uncomplainingly. From his sick bed he directed the operation of his farm during all these weary months. He submitted to several very serious operations and cheerfully bore his pain in the hope that although his life was not spared, someone might benefit by it and some unfortunate ones suffering lessened. One of his outstanding characteristics was his thoughtfulness and generosity to others. Quiet and unassuming in manner he won the respect and love of all who knew him and many hearts are tearful today because of the sorrow caused by his death. He was very appreciative and often spoke of the many acts of kindness extended by friends during his long illness.

Surviving him are his wife, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Koester, four brothers, Karl, John and Clifford of this community and Clarence of Enchant, Albert, Canada. There are also many close relatives and friends. An infant son preceded him in death two years ago.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. J. W. Taylor, Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home and 2:30 at the Methodist church. Dr. Taylor paid a beautiful tribute to him in a very touching sermon. Mrs. Granville Sletten sang "Just As I Am" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." His four brothers, Karl, Clarence, John and Clifford, acted as pallbearers. The remains were laid to rest in Oaklawn cemetery. The wealth of beautiful flowers and the large number of friends who came to pay their last respects were evidence of the esteem in which he was held.

Those attending the services from a distance were J. P. Sommers and son, John, Mrs. Fred Scholljegerdes of Waseca; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Koester and Mrs. Walter Merzdorf, Alvin Wunderlich and Henry Glor of Faribault; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Punderson of Rochester; and Clarence Koester of Enchant, Alberta.
