Notes |
- Surrounded by his family, Glennis Malfred Hamre, Leonard, ND, was called home to his Savior on November 21, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Glennis was born on January 14, 1923 on the family farm in Watson Township, near Leonard, North Dakota to Malfred and Anna (Ufer) Hamre. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter?s Lutheran Church, Leonard, ND. He attended country school in Watson Township, attended Sheldon High School for three years, and graduated from the Enderlin Public School in 1940.
Glennis was married to Muriel Moen on February 20, 1949 at Preston Church, near Fort Ransom, ND. They had four children, Diane, Jeff, Shelley and Susan. Glennis and Muriel owned and operated the family farm in Cass County. Community service was a priority to Glennis and was shown by his active involvement in many ways. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, Enderlin, ND. Glennis volunteered as a 4-H leader and Cass County 4-H council member. He served on the Chaffee and Chaffee-Lynchburg Elevator Board, Leonard Oil Company Board, was an ASCS board member for 20 years and a charter member and director of the Enderlin Rural Fire Department and served for 26 years. A great joy for Glennis was also the time he donated to the Red River Valley Fair Board where he had the privilege to give his time as the President in 1995-96. He was active in the organization of the Enderlin Quarterback Club and a lifelong Enderlin Eagle sports fan.
In his later years, Glen enjoyed golfing, collecting tools/antiques and continued to help on the family farm by chasing Neva?s cows. Everyone could tell by the look on his face how much he loved following his children?s and grandchildren?s activities. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Mourning his passing is his wife, Muriel; his daughter Diane (Harley) Horsager, Lakeville, MN, and granddaughters Serena and Maia, step-granddaughter Julie (Troy) Scott and step-great grandson Justin, and step-granddaughter Kim (Doug) Richardson and step-great granddaughter Kaitlyn; his son Jeff (Neva), Leonard, ND, and grandchildren Haley, Kayl, Mackenzie, and Jorun; his daughter Shelley (Brad) Zietz, Fargo, ND, and grandchildren Ben and Greta; his daughter Susan, St. Paul, MN; his special cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding Glennis in death were his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Marvin Utke.
Interment will be held at the Enderlin Cemetery.
