  Notes	The Iola Historical Society has several photographs of Deronda as a cornet player in the Iola Boys Band in the 1920s. Called DeRonda in the 1930 census. In the 1940 census, he lived at home with his parent in Los Angeles. He was a plumber’s helper for a contractor and builder. He had had two years of college. He earned $432 in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Los Angeles on 3 Mar 1941. He was single, had 2 years of college, and was a cook in civilian life.
