    Darlene Mae Rockensock, 90 of Blackduck, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Bemidji Sanford Hospital following an extended illness.

    A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Evangelical Free Church of Blackduck. The immediate family will meet together at the church at 9:00 and greet her friends from 10-11 a.m. before the service. Pastor Dwight Warden will officiate. Burial will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

    Darlene Mae Kilde was born to August and Bertha Kilde in rural Blackduck, Minnesota on March 19, 1926. She attended Winan Country School and Blackduck High School. She met Herbert Rockensock while he was conducting evangelistic meetings at Hornet Town Hall in the early 1940’s. She came to faith in Jesus and was baptized at that time. Herb and Darlene were married on June 10, 1943 at the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church which was meeting at the time in the Mobile Station in Blackduck, Pastor John Goodrich officiating. The newlyweds traveled by train to Richmond, California where Herb was employed in the war shipyards and Darlene worked in a canning factory. They returned to Blackduck in 1944, and lived in Duluth, Leonidas/Eveleth and Blackduck after the war. They raised their family of six children in rural Blackduck (Taylor Township) where they bought their family farm in the summer of 1959.

    Darlene enjoyed many activities throughout her life and various family events: baking, canning, cooking, gardening, her bantam chicks and her flower gardens… She loved knitting, walking in the country and ice fishing on Rabideau and boating with Herb on Twin Lake. She especially enjoyed spending time in the Word of God daily studying her Bible.

    Any time her family gathered for a special occasion or party she was there enjoying her “folks”.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Bertha, her husband, Herbert in 1996, and her four brothers: Alvern, Joe, August, and Bill, and three sisters: Lucille, Myrtle and Florence; her son, Wallace, her grandson, Brett Rockensock, her daughter-in-law, Melba Rockensock and great-granddaughters, Etta Rockensock and Tracy Martin.

    Darlene is survived by five children who dearly cherish her memory: Gerald (Arlys), of Hines, Minnesota; James, of Bemidji, Minnesota; Verna Mae Sutton (Ron), of Embarrass, Minnesota; Daniel (Jewel), of Blackduck, Minnesota; Phillip (Pam), of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Rockensock of Blackduck, Minnesota.

    She is also survived by two sisters: Verna Nicholson of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota and Jennie Hanson of Forest Lake, Minnesota and her brother, Cloyd Kilde of Cohasset, Minnesota. She leaves 18 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

    Verna M. Nicholson, 93, of Spring Lake Park, went home to be with the Lord while asleep at her home on January 8, 2023.  Verna was born February 12, 1929 to August and Bertha Kilde in Hornet Township, North of Blackduck MN, the sixth of eleven children in a close, loving, musically gifted family.

    She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 12 during an evangelistic meeting led by Herb Rockensock at the Hornet Town Hall.  She was a faithful follower of Christ the rest of her life.  Like her mother, she showed Christ’s love and grace to everyone she met, loving unreservedly.  She had a way of making those who knew her feel special. 

    Verna graduated from Blackduck H.S. in 1947, lettering in choral music.  She married the love of her life, Roy Nicholson, October 30, 1948, in Blackduck.  They lived in Wadena, rural Blackduck, St. Paul, Duluth, the Evergreen Trailer Park near Aurora, Eveleth, Napa CA, rural Grand Rapids MN and Spring Lake Park.

    She taught Sunday School in Napa, playing guitar and singing for Sunday School and church.  A gracious hostess, she enjoyed fellowship with the women’s group in Napa and the Birthday Club in Spring Lake Park.  Verna was part of the MOPS childcare team at Emmanuel Christian Center for many years.  She also provided childcare in her home.

    She was a wonderful mother and homemaker.  She was especially known for her baking skills, forming perfectly round buns, bread loaves, cinnamon rolls, pies, and cookies.  She enjoyed having coffee with friends and family at her kitchen table. 

    Extended family was always very important.  Mom loved being with her people on both sides of the family.  Mom and Dad looked forward to the annual Kilde Reunion at the Hornet Town Hall.  Later mom would attend the reunion now being held at the site of her childhood home. They loved camping at Webster Lake near Blackduck, where local relatives would come to visit.  They also cherished the annual Nicholson extended family campout at McCarthy Beach State Park each September.

    In retirement they enjoyed traveling in their conversion van to the North Shore, Southern Illinois, Texas, Florida, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  They attended grandchildren’s college graduations in Greenville South Carolina and a wedding in Ohio.

    She was preceded in death by infant son Roy Vernan (1960) and husband Roy (2002).  She is survived by her children, Allen (Barb), Dennis (Terri), John (Jan), Don (Sherry), Ron, and Joy (Tim) Berg; sister Jennie Hanson, sister-in-law Camilla (Kilde) Scott, 16 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

    CLOYD OLAF KILDE, age 83, of Cohasset, MN, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home. Cloyd was born in 1932 to August and Bertha Kilde in Blackduck, MN where he also grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Sharron Beier on March 11, 1953 and in 1956 they made their home in Grand Rapids, MN and later moved to Cohasset, MN. Cloyd was a proud Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner/operator of Kilde Construction and a longtime member of the Kilde Brothers Band. Cloyd enjoyed hunting, woodworking and spending time at the cabin in Blackduck. His new founded love was the Kilde Barn.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Sharron; sisters, Florence, Mert, Lucille and Darlene; and brothers, Bill, Joe, August and Alvern.

    Cloyd is survived by two daughters, Karen Kilde and Jeanine Kilde; son, Duane (Jennella) Kilde; two sisters, Jenny Hanson and Verna Nicholson; four grandchildren, Cara Randolph, Amy (Tony) Applebee, Kasey (Krystle) Kilde and Ben Kilde; and three great-grandchildren, Leigha and Jason Wong and Madi Applebee.

    Cloyde married Sharron Darlene BEIER on 11 Mar 1953 in Beltrami County, Minnesota. Sharron was born on 9 May 1937 in Big Stone County, Minnesota; died on 18 Jun 2012 in Grand Rapids, Itasca County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Wally was born on May 26, 1951 in Duluth Minnesota the son of Herbert L. Rockensock and Darlene M. (Kilde) Rockensock. He and his family moved to Blackduck, Minnesota in 1957 where he graduated from high school in 1969. He married Cindy Cornell on June 23, 1973. Together they had two children. Wally’s working life included moving to Chicago after high school where he worked with his brother Jerry delivering sheetrock. After returning to Blackduck he raised beef and dairy cattle as well as buffalo. During this time he also had a small alcohol production distillation plant. He attended hardwood lumber grading school in Memphis, Tennessee in 1984. He then preceded to product multiple wood products, which included sawing, grading, milling, drying and pelletizing. Hobbies included classic cars collection, raising wild game and visiting with family and neighbors.

    Wally is survived by his wife Cindy Rockensock, son Festus (Niki) Rockensock, daughter Ginger (Mathew) Kaiser, eight grandchildren, his mother, Darlene Rockensock. siblings Gerald (Arlys) Rockensock, James Rockensock, Verna Mae (Ron) Sutton, Daniel (Jewel) Rockensock, and Phillip (Pam) Rockensock and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Wally was preceded in death by his father Herb Rockensock, his nephew Brett Rockensock and sister-in-law Melba Rockensock.

    Dan was born on May 7, 1955 in Virginia, Minnesota, the son of Herbert L. and Darlene M. (Kilde) Rockensock. The family moved to Blackduck in 1957. He grew up and attended Blackduck schools, graduating from Blackduck High School in 1973. Following graduation he worked in the Erie Mining Company in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota for a short time. Dan graduated from Bemidji Technical College in 1976 with a degree in Auto Body and worked at Muscatell Chevrolet in Fargo, North Dakota from April of 1976-May of 1977.

    September 18, 1976, Dan was united in marriage to Jewel Helgeson in Blackduck. The couple lived for a short while in Moorhead, Minnesota before moving to Blackduck in June of 1977 to begin his career in logging; a good fit for a guy who loved to spend time outdoors.

    He was a loving husband, father and friend to many and was always willing to sit and have a conversation and listen to others. Dan enjoyed any activity that brought him outdoors and he shared many fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. He was a very active member of the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church, was a member of the Minnesota Timber Producers Association and Minnesota Logger Education program.

    Dan is survived by his wife, Jewel Rockensock; daughter Teresa (Wayne) Hawkinson and their children, Reagan, Kate and Mackenzie all of Andover, Minnesota; siblings, Gerald (Arlys) Rockensock of Blackduck, James Rockensock of Bemidji, Minnesota; Verna (Ron) Sutton of Embarrass, Minnesota, Cindy (Mike) Brown of Blackduck and Phillip (Pam) Rockensock of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brett; sister-in-law, Melba Rockensock and a brother, Wally Rockensock.

    A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck, Minnesota, with Rev. Dwight Warden, officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday at the church from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and also for and hour before the service on Monday. Inurnment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

    On Thursday, April 9, 2020, Dawn Lynn Kilde passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth at the age of 64. She fought a long fight with too many cancers and a too frail body but stayed strong, positive and kept her beautiful sense of humor throughout. Dawn was born on July 17, 1955 to Alice and Wilfred (Bill) Kilde. She was a free spirit and loved to travel, enjoyed meeting people, and had many adventures.

    Dawn always had a twinkle in her eye and a humorous story to share. She loved her gypsy lifestyle and worked as an upholsterer, finisher of mansions, flea marketing and any other job she chose to do.

    Dawn loved the outdoors including camping, fishing and gardening. Her love of her life was her dog, Ella and her family. She is survived by her sister, Sheila Krogstad (David Brletich), nephew Christopher (Trisha) Krogstad, Allison Krogstad (Benjamin Pawlik), extended nephews Christopher Brletich (Amanda Huismann), Kyle (Margarita) Johnson, great nephews Oswin and Henning Pawlik, great nieces Clarissa and Kyra Krogstad and Marina Brletich, and many loving aunts and cousins. Special mention to Patricia (Butch) Warren as her lifelong friend and Linda Scheuring as her second mom.

    Dawn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and Bill Kilde.

    She was cremated and services will be forthcoming in Blackduck, MN with burial with her mother and father.

    Brett H. Rockensock, 25, Blackduck, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. Mr. Rockensock has relatives in the Hills and Rock County area.

    Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 18, at the Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck. The Rev. Dwight Warden officiated. Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

    Brett Rockensock was born to Daniel and Jewel (Helgeson) Rockensock on April 23, 1981, in Bemidji. He was diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosa at the age of two. He was raised in Blackduck and attended schools in Bemidji, Cass Lake, Northome and Blackduck. He graduated from Blackduck High School in May 2003. He recently attended the DAC program in Northome. In the evening he enjoyed going outside and ride the 4-wheeler, look for deer or go for drives. He liked to go to the woods to see where Dad was working. In July 1998 he and his parents attended Camp Sundown in New York, a special camp for persons with XP. All the activities took place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

    Mr. Rockensock attended the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church.

    Survivors include his parents, Dan and Jewel Rockensock, Blackduck; one sister, Teresa (Wayne) Hawkinson, Eagan; his paternal grandmother, Darlene Rockensock, Blackduck; his maternal grandparents, Don and Vivian Helgeson, Hines; and numerous special aunts, uncles and cousins.

    Mr. Rockensock was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herb Rockensock, in 1996.
