    Notes:

According to the 1900 census, she had borne 7 children, 3 still living. She came to this country in 1881. The family was living in Pine Creek Township, Morrison County, at the time of the 1900 census.

In the 1910 census, only Hugo is still living at home with her in Little Falls. In that census she is shown as having had only 3 children, all 3 still living. Her name in the census is Sophia Peterson. She has no occupation.

Her property was foreclosed upon in 1914. It’s probable that that had some bearing on she and her children moving to Canada.

A family history of Hugo Peterson incorrectly assigns a fourth child to Aleck and Sophie, a so-called Anna Peterson, born and died in Minneapolis and married to a “Mr. Likevold.” It appears that the author of the family history confused Olga with this non-existent sister.

She is not the “Mrs. Sophia Peterson” who died in Morrison County in 1939. That was a younger woman, the widow of a Gust Peterson.

She may have died in Canada.

A brief mention in the 10 Dec 1920 edition of the Little Falls Herald:

Mrs. S Liekvall and children and Mrs. Liekvall’s mother, Mrs. Sophia Peterson, are here to spend the winter and living on Eighth street northwest. They came here from Nokomis, Canada.

Maria married Erich (Aleck) LARSON PETERSON about 1880 in Stockholm, Sweden. Erich (son of Lars PETERSON) was born in 1845 in Sweden; died on 2 Oct 1900 in Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota; was buried on 4 Oct 1900 in Oakland Cemetery, Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • MN Death Cert Checked: Y

    Notes:

She is not the Anna Anderson who died in Morrison County on 24 Oct 1944 (1944-MN-008505).

Jan Johansson says that Emibas has her getting permission to leave Sweden (from Gustafsberg, Värmdö, Stockholms län (Uppland)) on 26 April 1882 and actually leaving the country for New York on 12 May 1882. She is shown as unmarried. She and her two daughters, Anna and Astrid, left Sweden the second time on 25 June 1886. The embarkation point was Göteborg both times.

In the 1905 state census, she and her family lived in Pike Creek Twp next to Sophia Peterson and her two children. Still living at home with Anna was Esther, 20, a domestic. The remainder of the children must have been listed on the back of the page, on a page that is missing, or were otherwise unrecorded.

The 1900 census reports that she had borne 8 children, all 8 still living. The 1910 census said only 7 still living. Harry, Herman, and Ethel were listed at home in 1910.

She was living in Minneapolis with her daughter Anna and Anna’s husband, as well as her daughter Ethel, at the time of the 1920 census.

Anna is living in Pike Creek Twp, Morrison County, in the 1930 census. Her widowed daughter Anna McCollem is living with her. Neither woman has an occupation.

    Died:
At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Olaf Jackson (Ethel). (Obit from the Little Falls Daily Transcript, 18 Feb 1948, cited in TempestCHICK’s Jackson-Tracy Family Tree.)

Anna married Alfred ANDERSON on 22 Jul 1884 in New York, New York. Alfred was born on 13 Dec 1859 in Skaraborgs län, Sweden; died in Feb 1900 in Pike Creek Twp, Morrison County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 3

  1. 10.  Olga PETERSON Descendancy chart to this point (6.Maria2, 1.Lars1) was born in Jul 1885 in New York; died on 18 May 1947 in Morrison County, Minnesota; was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Minnesota Death Certificate: 1947-MN-009220

    Notes:

She is called Olga V. G. S. in the 1895 state census. Married to Sven and living at 607 12th Street in Little Falls in the 1905 state census.

Not listed in the 1910 or 1920 censuses so it seems likely that they were in Canada during that period.

Because she married an alien, she had to reapply for U.S. citizenship.

She is shown as a widow in the 1940 census. In that census, she lives with her son Clarence in Little Falls in the same house in which both had lived in 1935. Neither were employed. That census shows Olga’s place of birth as New Jersey.

    Birth:
Find A Grave says she was born in Hoboken, New Jersey

Olga married Sven Knute LEIKVOLL on 14 Mar 1905 in Morrison County, Minnesota. Sven was born on 10 Oct 1880 in Buskerud, Norway; died on 21 Aug 1963 in Morrison County, Minnesota; was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Minnesota Death Certificate: 1938-MN-000643
    • Occupation: Sign Painter

    Notes:

Called Hugo A. E. in the 1895 state census.

Shown as born in Minnesota in the 1910 census.

He is not listed in the draft registration or the 1920 census. It’s possible that he went to Canada with his sister and brother-in-law (and, maybe, his mother).

In the 1930 census, Hugo and Eva Peterson lived in Bemidji. Hugo was a sign painter for a decorator. He was not a vet of the World War. They had no children. Hugo gave his place of birth as New York.

In the 1937-38 Bemidji city directory, Hugo and Eva lived at 2123 Irvine Avenue.

Died as Hugo Alex Peterson, “of Carcinoma of prostate Metastasis to pelvic bone, it lasted six months.”

    Notes:

Called Eugenia, age 5 months, in the 1895 state census. Called Eyen in the 1900 census. Called Mary V., age 10, in the 1905 state census. Not listed at home with her mother and brother in the 1910 census.

An article in the 22 Jan 1904 edition of the Little Falls Herald:

A little daughter of Mrs. Sophia Peterson of the West side was knocked down by a horse Thursday last week but escaped with a scalp wound.

An article in the 25 Jun 1909 edition of the Little Falls Herald:

Mary Peterson, the fifteen year-old daughter of Mrs. Sophia Peterson of the West side was brought before Justice Gerritz’s court yesterday afternoon on the complaint of her mother who asked that she be committed to the Red Wing school for the incorrigibles as she was unable to do anything with the girl. The justice recommended that the girl be sent and, if Judge Taylor approves, committment papers will probably be received here today.

In the 1910 census, she is probably the Mary Peterson, 15, an inmate at the Minnesota State Training School in Red Wing. Her nativity is shown as born in Minnesota to a father born in Norway and a mother born in Sweden.

An article in the 3 May 1912 edition of the Little Falls Herald:

Mary Peterson, a daughter of Mrs. Sophia Peterson of the West side, who only eight months ago had been paroled from the Girls’ Home at Sauk Centre, was caught masquerading as a boy in Minneapolis the latter part of the week and detained. She had purchased some boys’ clothing at the Val. E. Kasparek Clothing store, ostensibly for her husband whom she said was in Canada but in reality to masquerade as a young man and travel.

The girl had gone to Minneapolis and there purchased her ticket for Chicago and sent her trunk ahead of her when her peculiar actions in men’s clothing and imperfect disguise was noticed by a detective who placed her under arrest. Upon being taken to the matron at the police station she owned up to her sex and stated that never more would she go masquerading in boys’ clothes as the trousers were too hard to keep up. They were slipping down on her and she was smoking a cigarette when taken into custody.

She has been returned to the Girls’ Home at Sauk Cente.

A family history of Hugo Peterson claims that she, as Marie Peterson, died in Tombstone, Arizona. That woman, according to the SSDI, was born 14 Nov 1894 and died September 1982 in Douglas in Cochise County, Arizona. Her Social Security number had been issued in Minnesota.

    Baptism:
    probably Bethel Lutheran

    Died:
    SSDI as Marie Peterson

  4. 13.  Anna Charlotta ANDERSON Descendancy chart to this point (9.Anna2, 1.Lars1) was born on 2 Dec 1882 in New York, New York; died on 11 Dec 1946 in Morrison County, Minnesota; was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • MN Death Cert Checked: Y
    • Minnesota Death Certificate: 1946-MN-009059

    Notes:

Shown in the 1900 census as born in Dec 1881.

She is a 46 year-old widow living with her mother in the 1930 census.

She died of heart failure. Mrs. Olaf Jackson (sister Ethel) was the informant for her death certificate.

    Died:
as Mrs. Anna Charlotte McCollum at St. Gabriel Hospital in Little Falls

Anna married Peter MCCALLUM on 30 Jun 1915 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Peter was born about 1877 in Canada; died on 2 Feb 1928 in Hennepin County, Minnesota; was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  5. 14.  Esther Astrid ANDERSON Descendancy chart to this point (9.Anna2, 1.Lars1) was born on 18 Jul 1885 in Hova, Västergötland, Skaraborgs län, Sweden; died in Oct 1981 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.

    Notes:

Middle name is supplied by the 1884-1894 Clerical Survey of Hova, Skaraborg, Sweden. The name is, however, difficult to read. The name in her birth record in the Födelsebok for Hova is Astrid Alfrida.

In the 1905 state census, she is living at home with her mother. She is a domestic.

She is a servant in the household of Charles Weyerhaeueser in Little Falls in 1910 and 1920. At this time, Charles managed the Pine Tree Lumber Company in Little Falls.

In the 1930 census, she is still a servant in that Weyerhaeuser family which now lives at 708 Summit Avenue in St. Paul. Charles’s widow Maud is now the head of the household. Esther’s birth place is erroneously shown as Illinois and her age as 39.

In the 1940 census, she is still a house maid for Maude Weyerhaeuser on Summit Avenue in St. Paul. Esther is shown as age 50, born in Illinois.

An Esther Anderson with the right birth date died in Sioux City, Iowa, in October of 1981. Given that Ethel lived in Sioux City, that Esther is probably the right one.

She is not the Esther Anderson of 1945-MN-008836.

  6. 15.  William Gustav ANDERSON Descendancy chart to this point (9.Anna2, 1.Lars1) was born on 14 Aug 1887 in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York; died on 2 Apr 1952 in Salem, Marion County, Oregon; was buried on 7 Apr 1952 in Salem Cemetery, Salem, Marion County, Oregon.

He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Grant County, North Dakota. He was a self-employed farmer, was married, and had a wife and five children. His birth date is shown as August 13, 1887, and his birth place is shown as Troy, New York. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair.

According to the 1940 census, he and Nancy had eighth-grade educations.

William married Theresa BAKER on 12 Feb 1908 in Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota. Theresa (daughter of Alfred BAKER and Frederika) was born on 2 Dec 1887 in Minnesota; died on 13 Dec 1918 in Grant County, North Dakota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Or Johanne G.

He registered for the draft in Union County, Oregon, on June 5, 1917. Although his birthdate is given as February 4, 1890, his age is 28 so the draft registrar fumbled the subtraction. John E Anderson lives at 2108 Adams in LaGrande, Oregon, where he owns an auto garage. He is married with a wife and three children. He is described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. (His brother Herman must have been living with him at that time. Herman used the same address.)

In the 1920 census, he is the 28 year-old John E Anderson, an automobile salesman living at 1808 First Street in La Grande in Union County, Oregon.

In the 1930 census, he is the 40 year-old John E Anderson, a wholesale and retail butcher living with his family in Coos, Coos County, Oregon. He is not a veteran.
