    Edward was living with his brother William in High Forest, Olmsted County, MN, in the 1880 census.

    In the 1900 census, he is Edward O. Williams, 40, a lumberman living with his wife and son in Merrill, Wisconsin.

    In the 1910 census, he is Edward O. Williams, 50, a traveling salesman of machinery living with his wife and son in Wausau.

    In the 1920 census, he may be the Edward Williams, age 59 and a widower, lodging in Mercer in Iron County, Wisconsin. His parents were born in Norway. He’s a laborer in a lumber camp.

    The Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery records show that Edward Ove Williams died in 1928.

    An “Edw O Williams” died in Waupaca County in January of 1896. That may have been Bettie’s other child. The WHS Genealogical Index shows an Edward Williams Jr. born 25 May 1891 in Waupaca County.

    His wife’s obit says that he was “at one time sheriff of Waupaca County.”

    His obit said that he “received his higher education at Merrill, Wisconsin” and was employed as a young man as a clerk in the Stetson store in Waupaca for seven years. Later he partnered with Sam Godfrey in running a general store. he was appointed deputy sheriff by his brother Andrew in 1887. In 1889 he was elected sheriff.

    Shown in the 1900 census as having not attended school in the previous 12 months.

    In the 1905 state census, he lives with his parents in Merrill.

    In the 1910 census, he is single and living with his parents in Wausau. He has no occupation.

    He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Marathon County as Claude R Williams. He claimed a wife, child, and mother were dependent upon him. He was a stenographer and bookkeeper for Rigner & Ringle in Wausau. He was described as tall and stout with gray eyes and light brown hair. He claimed to have “bad eyes.” He lived at 616 Third Avenue South in Wausau.

    He appears to be included in the 1920 census in a very faint census image for Wausau’s 3rd Ward. His address was 707 Jefferson. His wife’s name is Elna or Edna and his son’s name is Gordon. Gordon appears to be 4 years old; the ages of Claude and his wife are not legible.

    From the Wausau Daily Herald, 3 Mar 1936 edition:

    Claude R. Williams, law clerk in the office of Regner and Ringle, passed away at his home, 602 Seymour Street, yesterday afternoon after a ten days’ illness with pleural pneumonia. His widow and son, Gordon Spencer, and his father, Edward Williams of this city survive.

    In the 1940 census, he and Virginia lived in South Milwaukee with their son Richard, age 1. He was an assembler in the electrical industry.

    He served in the U.S. Army for about 8 months in 1945.

    In the 1950 census, he and his family lived in Milwaukee. He was a milling machine operator for an excavating machinery factory.
