    Not recorded in the MHS birth index although the 1930 census shows that as his birth location. He was probably born in Wisconsin.

    Inferred from the 1930 census in which a child by this name, age 6 and shown as a grandson, whose mother was born in Wisconsin, is living with the grandfather’s (Charles H. Harder) family in Balsam Lake. Charles L.’s father, Charles W., age 31, is living in the same household. Charles W. has recently married a woman named M. Alice, age 19, born in Iowa, who is also living with the Charles H. family.

    In the 1940 census, he lived with his father, step-mother, and siblings in Rockford. He was a high school student.

    In the 1950 census, he and his wife and son lived in Roscoe in WInnebago County, Illinois. He was a route buyer for a rendering works.

    Charles Leslie Harder, 97, of Durand formally of Rockford passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 28, 2020. Born May 17, 1923 in Wabasha, MN. Son of Charles W. and Helen B. (Engel) Harder. Veteran of the United States Navy having served During WWII aboard the USS New Jersey BB 62. United in marriage to Nancy Jean Carroll on February 14, 1952. Retired from Amerock Corporation after several years. Members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Charles found enjoyment in singing, dancing, going out to eat, having picnics and corn boils with the family, and together with Nancy they enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, going on several cruises and going to Royal Palm RV Park in Big Pine Key, Florida for over 20 years.

    Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy; children, Nanette (Dave) Leggett, Charles “Corky” (Carol) Harder, Leslie (Brad) Curtis, Brian (Susan) Harder; grandchildren, Shelia (Phillip) Hoffman, Matt (Amy) Allen, Dan Allen, Chuck (Karen) Harder, Jeremiah (Jay) Allen, Michael Curtis, Jennifer (Kevin) Black, Nicholas Curtis, Shanna Clankie, Ryan (Crystal Bigham) Clankie, Dana (fiancé Dan Kunkle) Harder, Brittany (JT) Price; several great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandson; several nieces and nephews; siblings Theresa (Merle) Menos, Judy Johnson. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Betty Malson; infant son, Jack Harder; daughter, Jill (Mike) Clankie; great-grandson, Lucas Black.

    Charles married Dorothy Marie MITCHELL on 12 Jun 1945 in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois, and was divorced in 1951. Dorothy was born on 16 Nov 1926 in Winnebago County, Illinois; died on 16 Dec 1986 in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois; was buried in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois.     “On March 3, a two-car crash on Latham Road claimed the life of Jill Clankie. Nineteen-year-old Ryan Moberg is now being charged with reckless homicide in the case.

    “The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office says that Moberg was traveling at a high rate of speed on Old River Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Latham. Moberg's vehicle then struck the driver's side of Clankie's car.

    “Several witnesses also reported that Moberg and another unidentified vehicle were seen "drag racing". After the crash, witnesses say the other vehicle fled.”

    In 2005, Moberg was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

    Leslie A. Curtis, 63, of Davis, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 after a short illness. She was born October 29, 1958 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Charles L. and Nancy (Carroll) Harder. Leslie married her soul mate, Bradley L. Curtis on August 19, 1978.

    She worked as a QA Inspector at UDL in Rockford. Leslie enjoyed camping, hiking and traveling. She loved going to the casino but most of all, she adored any time she could spend with her family.

    Leslie is survived by her loving husband, Bradley; mother, Nancy J. Harder; children, Michael Curtis and Nicholas Curtis; siblings, Nannette (Dave) Leggett, Charles “Corky” (Carol) Harder and Brian (Sue) Harder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles L. Harder; sister, Jill L. Clankie; and infant brother, Jack Harder.
