The Johnson Family Tree on Ancestry calls him Ole Knudsen Lien and has him born 16 Dec 1823 in Vang and dying in Iowa in 1864.

Jim’s Valdres Slekt tree shows Sigrid as #I54394. It has her birthdate as 3 Nov 1859 and her death date as 16 June 1921. Vang church book has her birth date as 8 Nov.

In the 1900 census, she had had 15 children, 12 still living. (The list below includes the 13 children alive at the time of the 1900 census.) Those numbers are 17 and 12 in the 1910 census.

She came to the U.S. in 1861. A Norway Lake church history says that Sigrid came to Iowa in 1861 and moved to Norway Lake in 1871.

In the 1920 census, she is a widow, head-of-household, living on a farm in Norway Lake Twp with her children and daughter-in-law and “step-father” Asle Frövold.

Sigrid died of diabetes.

He is employed by the Minneapolis Steel and Machinery Company, 32nd and Snellling Ave. S.. “making shells.” He shows his nearest relative as Magda Ellingboe, 3521 22nd Avenue. He was described as of medium height and build with brown eyes and dark hair.

At the time of his death (as George Ellingboe), he was living at 2207 E. 36th Street in Minneapolis. He was a laborer at Minneapolis Steel and Machinery Co. He died of bronchopneumonia due to influenza. The informant for his death certificate was Albert A. of Kerkhoven.

Martin and Anna and their children (and, apparently, Anna’s brother Clarence) lived only a couple of farms away from his mother’s farm and the Mortenson farm in Norway Lake Twp in the 1920 census.

Martin’s death certificate, for which his brother Ole was the informant, gave his birthdate as 2 Nov 1886. Martin died of pneumonia caused by influenza.

The obit in the Willmar Tribune says that he was born October 2nd. He had been employed as a clerk for Moen & Gandrud for one year and had attended the Willmar Seminary and a business college in Minneapolis.

He died intestate. His estate was probated in Kandiyohi County during the first half of 1922.

In the 1950 census, he and Dora lived in Phoenix. Neither had an occupation.

In the 1951 and 1952 Phoenix, Arizona, city directories, William is a barber for Towne & Country Barber. He and Dora lived at 4220 N 12th Street.

In the 1956 Phoenix directory, he and Dora live at 1433 E Orangewood Avenue. He is a barber for Windsor Square Barber Shop.

According to his death certificate, he died from coronary thrombosis due to emphysema. He had lived in Phoenix for 11 years. His wife was the informant for the information on his death certificate. She did not know the names of either of William’s parents, nor did she know where they were born.

At his death, he and Dora lived at 2444 W Devonshire in Phoenix.

“Edmund Ellingboe, of South Minneapolis, driver of one of the cars involved in a highway crash which yesterday resulted in the death of Theodore Berg, 23, of Brainerd, today faces a charge of “criminal negligence in the operation of vehicle resulting in the death of a human being.” The warrant was issued yesterday from the office of County Attorney F E Ebner and was served upon Ellingboe at St. Joseph’s hospital.

“Hearing upon the charge will be delayed, possibly for several weeks, as Ellingboe is confined to the hospital with a compound fracture of the hip, an injury received in the crash which caused Berg’s death.

“Others injured in the accident were Ernest Rausch, of Brainerd, driver of the car in which Berg was riding and Carl Layman, of St. Paul, a passenger in Ellingboe’s car.”

According to another article, the head-on crash occurred on U.S. 371 about 3 miles south of Brainerd early Wednesday morning. Berg died of his injuries on Friday.

Edmund and Margaret lived at 2562 Lumni View Dr in Bellingham in 1982 and 1986 and at 7054 Old Guide Rd in Lynden, Washington, in 1989.

Survivors include her son, Don; a granddaughter, Jennifer Gastinger; great grandchildren, Chantell, Destiny and Deante; a sister, Laverne Peterson, many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gastinger; and parents Albert and Ida Ellingboe.

Laverne was born May 8, 1923, to Albert and Ida (Flolo) Ellingboe on the family farm in Sunburg, MN. Both of her parents died when Laverne was very young, so she was raised by her Grandma Flolo. She graduated from Brooton High School in 1941. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked at an auto parts store and later met the love of her life Roy. He had just returned home from World War II.

She married Roy Peterson on July 19, 1946. They lived in several locations across Minnesota and North Dakota before moving to Huron, SD, in 1956. They were blessed with 4 children, Nancy, Kathryn, Barbara, and Thomas. In 1979, they moved to Black Hawk, SD, and later Rapid City. After the passing of Roy in 2001, Laverne continued living in her apartment in Rapid City where she enjoyed socializing and having coffee with all the residents. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting dishcloths and making lefse. She could speak Norwegian and would often recite the Norwegian prayer she was taught as a child. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Roy was Swedish and they enjoyed the rivalry of the better nationality.

The past four years were spent at Aspen Grove Assisted Living in Sturgis where she was cared for by a loving staff. Even with her dementia she always said "this is a good place."

Laverne Adelaide (Ellingboe) Peterson passed away on September 2, 2020, at the hospice care unit in Sturgis SD.

Laverne is survived by her four children, Nancy (Stephen) Vaughn, Kathryn (Kenneth) Chapman, Barbara (Gary) Reimer, and Thomas (Christine) Peterson: five grandchildren, Cristina (Hanni) Eid, Lucas (Amber) Peterson, Cody (Katie) Peterson, Ryan (Sarah) Reimer, and Jared (Sarah) Reimer; and eight great-grandchildren, Malik Sinclair, Rylee and Sophia Reimer, Aidan and Olivia Peterson, Brinley and Brody Peterson, and Emmitt Reimer.

Sadie Cora Orson was born on Nov 18, 1916 in Wilton, ND, the daughter of Clarence and Sophia (Ellingboe) Hjelle.  She grew up on the family farm in Arctander Township where she attended country grade school in Dist. #56.   On April 2, 1938, Sadie was united in marriage to Walter Orson at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church.  To this union, five sons and one daughter were born.  They made their home in New London where they owned and operated Gamble Hardware Store for 30 years.  She also worked as a nurse’s aid at GlenOaks Care Center for many years and volunteered as a foster Grandma at Prairie Woods Elementary. Sadie and Walter were able to share in 41 years of marriage before his death on Nov 1, 1979. 

Sadie was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where she served in ladies aid.  She also served in Civic League and as a Cub Scout den leader when her children were young. She enjoyed needlework, flowers, baking and spending time with her family. 

Sadie died on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 95. She is survived by her children, Wilbur Orson, Wayne Orson, Ronald (Marsha) Orson, Marlys Bjur (friend, Ed Marklowitz) and Marlyn (Jackie) Orson; 5 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Ed) Mrzena and sisters-in-law, Ethel Hjelle and Evelyn Hjelle.

Gordon was born June 1, 1931 at Sunburg, the son of Robert and Lillian (Brakken) Ellingboe. He married Marilyn J. Johnson July 10, 1954 at Benson. They made their home in Mounds View for 42 years before moving to Elm Island Lake near Aitkin in 1997. Gordon worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. for 42 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sherman; and sister, Donna Mae Bendt. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn; daughters, Cindy and Diane (Jim); sons, Douglas and David (LaTonya); grandchildren, Jennifer, Samuel, Erin and Olivia; and great-grandchildren, Becca, Joey and Annabelle; and also his brother, Delmar and sister Ardis Marquardt.

Delmar R. Ellingboe, age 83 of Baldwin and formerly of Spring Valley, died the morning of Monday, January 4, 2016 at home, with his wife by his side. Delmar was born December 2, 1932 in Benson MN, the son of Robert E. and Lillie (nee Breckken) Ellingboe.  He graduated from Benson High School, and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country during the Korean War. Delmar was united in marriage to Marlene Watembach on July 31, 1954. Their union in marriage would be blessed with seven children.

Delmar worked in the computer industry much of his life until his retirement.  In his retirement, he worked for the Corp of Engineers in both St Paul and Spring Valley, and also volunteered at the Senior Center in Baldwin WI.  He enjoyed farming, camping, canoeing, woodworking, the outdoors, collecting miniature cars, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Wilson American Legion Post #330.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene; his sister Ardis Marquart; his children, Dana Ellingboe of Chippewa Falls WI, Jeff (Mary Beth) Ellingboe of Minneapolis MN, Kathy Palmer of Spring Valley WI, Rob (Laurie) Ellingboe of Wilson WI, Greg (Andrea) Ellingboe of Eau Claire WI, Jackie (CJ) Hunter of Chandler AZ, and Eric (Heidi) Ellingboe of Dubuque IA; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial for Delmar Ellingboe will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 105 Sabin Avenue in Spring Valley WI, with Rev. Fr. Prince Raja officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at church, and also from 3:00-6:00pm on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin WI. A Prayer Service will conclude the evening at 6:00pm. Memorial contributions in memory of Delmar may be directed to the Fisher House Foundation, which serves veterans and military families at VA Medical Centers nationwide.

Sherman was united in marriage to Sharon Resch on Nov. 29, 1980, in Anoka and had worked as a diesel mechanic for Advance United Trucking Company. He was an accomplished craftsman who enjoyed woodworking projects, fishing and playing cribbage with Sharon. He was a member of Nashwauk Lutheran Church.

Hazel Angeline Schwartzwald, 97, of Vasa, formerly of Alexandria, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at her daughter’s residence.  She was born July 18, 1923 in Sunburg, MN to Sam and Lila (Ellingboe) Mortenson.  She attended schools in Sunburg, and worked for a short time at Moen and Grandrud Grocery Store.  She married Edmund Schwartzwald on December 24, 1944 in Santa Monica, CA.  After he was honorable discharged from the service they moved to Litchfield for a short time, then in 1947 moved to Osakis, until 1965 when they moved to Alexandria.  She was a member at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  For the past 10 years she has been living with her daughter near Vasa.  She enjoyed baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, fishing and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Gillis of Vasa, Sharon (Bruce) Olson of Vasa; six grandchildren, Edmund (Erica) of Kasson, Kyle (Paula) of Vasa, Andrea of Lake City, Dana (Jennifer) of Coronado, CA, Blake (Erin) of Roseville, Brock (Andrea) of Stillwater; 14 great grandchildren, Lydia, Peter, Timothy, Braeden, Owyne, Mikyle, Beibhinn, Max, Emma, Laken, Holden, Clay, Isaac, Claire.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lila; sister, Georgine; husband, Ed; infant son, Edmund Jr.; great granddaughter, Katherine.

A graveside service will take place this spring at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN.  Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.

Ruth ?Boo? Eklund, 82, of Willmar, died Friday at Rice Care Center in Willmar, MN. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 17, at Vinje Lutheran Church with Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating. The family prefers memorials to a Special Staff Fund at Rice Care Center, who cared for Boo.

Ruth ?Boo? (Hoglund) was born on April 1, 1921, in Kerkhoven, MN, the daughter of Dr. Herbert A. and Ruth (Merriman) Hoglund. Following her mother’?s death at childbirth, her father married Grace (Merriman), who together raised Boo and her two sisters. Boo graduated Valedictorian of Kerkhoven High School in 1939. She attended the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in English and Library Science. Her first teaching position was in Cokato, where she met her future husband. She later worked as a librarian in St. Paul and most recently at Jefferson Elementary School in Willmar.

On December 28, 1946, Boo was united in marriage to Charles W. Eklund. They lived in St. Paul, MN, Grand Forks, ND, Sioux City, IA and Fargo, prior to moving to Willmar in 1965. They shared a lifelong love of golf, bridge, bowling and summers at Green Lake.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth (and Bill) Thorne, of Ft. Collins, CO, Jeff Eklund, of Willmar, and Gretchen (and Keith) Kleinsasser, of Cottage Grove; six grandchildren, Brad Thorne, Suzanne Thorne, Zachary Kleinsasser, Heidi (and Nathan) Cole, Joel Kleinsasser and Allison Kleinsasser. Also surviving is her sister, Mary Margaret Nelson, of Spicer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanne and Duanne Hammargren of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Audré Torgerson.
