    According to his Iowa death certificate, he died from “either cerebral hemorrhage or a thrombosis.” Contributing to his death was high blood pressure. He had a hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of his body). His parents were Lars Moen and Rande Ellingboe, both born in Norway, his wife was Gyda (the informant), he had been a tailor by occupation, and he was to be buried at Sunset Rest on the 22nd.

    Vang C, p. 39 says that he left for Amerika from Bergen in 1906. He had a son with Ragndi Olsdatter (b. 1886) named Ola in 1904 and another son with Barbro Olsdatter Haugane (b. 1882) named Olav in 1906.

    CARL MOEN FUNERAL IS HELD AT DEER CREEK

    Carpenter – Funeral services for Carl Moen, 37, who died Thursday, were held at Deer Creek N. L. church Saturday with the Rev. Olaf Langhough in charge.

    The mixed quartet sang two selections.

    Burial was at the cemetery adjoining the church.

    Mr. Moen is survived by his wife and two young sons, his parents, Mr. and Mrs Ole Moen, four sisters and three brothers.

    Carl Moen was born June 13, 1898 in Iowa, the son of Ole and Rose Moen. He married Sylvia Anne Smith, the daughter of Clinton Wilson Smith and Amanda Emma( Kanke) Smith.

    Dale E. Moen, 56, of LeMars died Friday at a LeMars hospital.

    Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars. The Rev. Robert Grupp will officiate. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LeMars.

    Mr. Moen was born April 2, 1927, in rural Worth County, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and then obtained a master's degree in 1954 from Colorado State College of Education.

    He married Patricia Welty Dec. 26, 1950, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. He taught school at Marcus, Waterville and Boyden in Iowa and came to LeMars in 1963. He was an elementary school principal in the LeMars Community School system. He retired in 1983 because of poor health.

    He was a member of the LeMars Lions Club, the Elementary Principal's Association and the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars. He also was an elder in the church.

    Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Brunsvold of Northwood, Iowa; his wife, Patricia of LeMars; three sons, Gregory of Independence, Jeffery of Iowa City and Lynn of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Richard of Dundee, Ill., and Kenneth of Belle Plaine, Minn.; two step-brothers; one step-sister and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven, father, Carl, mother, Sylvia, step-father, Albert Bruns-vold, brother Dale Moen & Don Brunsvold.

    Ron was a graduate of University of Northern Iowa and the University of Missouri where he studied mathematics and statistics. He was a statistician, consultant, and teacher to industry, government, healthcare, and higher education. Ron was a co-founder and partner of Associates in Process Improvement. He was Trustee Emeritus of The W. Edwards Deming Institute and received the 2002 Deming Medal from the American Society for Quality. He published numerous articles and books on experimental design and process improvement systems.

    Ron was a passionate teacher and lecturer from his first job as a high school math teacher to university lecturer and international healthcare consultant. He was an expert birder, naturalist, car enthusiast of both classic and electric cars, and artist.
