    She was one of five children of John and Dina (Ryness) Nordgaard. She had a twin sister, Mabel.

    Survivors include a stepsister, Cornelia Rorvig of Rothsay, a brother, Selmer Nordgaard of Rothsay.

    Jerome Odin Toso, 88, of Rothsay, died Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.

    Jerome was born on February 19, 1928, to Winfield and Elvine (Nordgaard) Toso in Rothsay. He attended country school in District # 27 through eighth grade and then served in the Army 24th Infantry Division, from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. Following discharge from the army he attended agricultural school in Fergus Falls.

    On May 16, 1953, Jerome was united in marriage to Joy Hammer in Rothsay. Early in their marriage Jerome and Joy operated a dairy farm, eventually transitioning it into a beef cow/calf and crop farm while raising their four young children. Eventually their son Stanley joined the farming operation and they farmed together for fifteen years prior to Stan’s declining health.
    Jerome was a member of the Rothsay American Legion Post #376 and served as the Tanberg Township Treasurer for 50 years. Jerome received the Melvin Jones Award as a Lion’s member. He served as a director on the Rothsay Farmers Elevator Board for years and also served on committees & boards at Hamar Lutheran Church.

    Although he enjoyed being a farmer, in his spare time he enjoyed taking many trips with Joy with some highlight trip destinations being Hawaii, Norway and Alaska. This past May he had the privilege of going on the Honor Flight Trip to Washington D.C. In his life time he enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, wood working and keeping the farm yard neat. Jerome was a regular for morning coffee with friends at the Rothsay Truck Stop. Jerome and Joy always found the time and energy to attend their children’s, grandchildren’s and in recent years, great-grandchildren’s activities.

    Jerome was a very patient, honest, hardworking man, with a good sense of humor. He was well respected by his family and community.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfield and Elvine Toso; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Seolien and Lida Hammer; a son, Stanley Jerome Toso in 2011; and two brothers, Wallace Toso and Norman Toso.

    Jerome’s family members include: his loving wife of sixty-three years, Joy Toso of Rothsay; children: Stanley decd. (Deb) Toso of Rothsay, Karen (Cliff) Froslie of Rothsay, Carol (Jim) Honcik of Moorhead, and Conni (Tom) Axness of Pelican Rapids, grandchildren, Stacy (Ryan) Lindbom, Amy (Joel) Meyer, Michelle (Nicholas) Nitschke, Justin (Rachel) Axness, Kyle (Desiree) Froslie, Jessica (DJ) Holland, Joseph (Teri) Axness, Jennifer (Jeremy) Kendall, Alyson (Mark) Bjornstad, Molly (Breck) Eckley, Bethany Froslie (Darin Montplasir), Jay Axness (Samira Kahn), Jesse (Barbara) Axness, and Kayla (Cody) Schafer; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Isabella, Lucas, Elli, Owen, Ryder, Jack, Thomas, Gianna, Destiny, Tripp, Trey, Lexi, Allison, Odin, Kate, Jaxon, Samuel, Ryn, Ethan, Tydan, Thea, Laura, Nora, Beckett, Teagan, Jens, William, Hollis, Emma, and Charles; sister-in-law, Ione Hammer and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

    Stanley J. Toso, 57, of Rothsay, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

    Stanley was born on March 22, 1954, in Pelican Rapids, the son of Jerome and Joy (Hammer) Toso. He graduated from Rothsay High School in 1972 and then attended Detroit Lakes Technical School.

    On Nov. 15, 1975, he married Deb Anderson at Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard. The couple lived in Rothsay and Stan farmed with his father. In 1999 he retired from farming due to health complications which required a kidney transplant. After his transplant he went to work as a mechanic at the Rothsay Farmer's Co-op.

    Stan was a member of the New Life Lutheran Parish, Rothsay Fire Department, Rothsay Town and Country Club and taught firearm safety for 26 years. He was an avid deer hunter and his passion in life was farming. He loved his family and enjoyed hanging out with his grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his grandparents; father-in-law, DeVaughn Anderson; and brother-in-law, David "Sac" Anderson.

    Survivors include his wife, Deb of Rothsay; four daughters: Amy (Joel) Meyer of Rothsay, Jessica (DJ) Holland of Rothsay, Molly (Breck) Eckley of Rothsay and Kayla (fiancé, Cody Schafer) Toso of Fargo; grandchildren: Elli, Tripp and Atlantah Meyer, Trey Holland, Destiny and Jaxon Eckley; parents, Jerome and Joy Toso of Rothsay; three sisters: Karen (Cliff) Froslie of Rothsay, Carol (Jim) Honcik of Moorhead, and Conni (Tom) Axness of Pelican Rapids; mother-in-law, Nevida Anderson of Fergus Falls; and sisters-in-law, Donna Anderson of Fergus Falls and Diane (Alan) Haugrud of Erhard. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.

    Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay
