She was a student at Moorhead State Teachers College in 1937.

In the 1940 census, she living with her widower father and her younger sister in Tioga, North Dakota. She was 23, unmarried, and working as a saleslady at a general store.

Esther Nelson, 102, a lifelong resident to the Tioga community, passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Tioga Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.

Esther Signora Agnes Strand was born on a farm in Golden Valley Township, northwest of Tioga on March 23, 1917 to Gilbert and Bertha (Ellingboe) Strand. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church and graduated from Tioga High School in 1935.

On January 30, 1944 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Nelson. They lived on the Nelson farm southeast of Tioga through the ensuing years. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, being one of the organists for many years and also accompanied the Zion Trio.

After LeRoy died on April 4, 1968, she moved to Tioga, where she enjoyed her little garden and flowers. She always had a positive attitude and looked on the bright side of things. She entered the Tioga Nursing Home in January of 2006 where she resided until her death.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Sandra) Nelson of Tioga, ND; grandchildren, Hannah (Jesse) Nelson-Diaz, of Seattle, WA, Gretchen (Steve) Bitz of Bismarck, ND and Everett Nelson of Tioga, ND. Other survivors include four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Iola Warford and Beulah Hanchett.

Beulah (Strand) Hanchett, 89, passed away 6/17/2009 in Sparks, NV. Beulah was born in Tioga, ND on 2/24/1920 to Bertha and Gilbert Strand, the youngest of 3 girls.

She graduated from Tioga High. Marrying Lloyd Hanchett in 1948, Beulah worked as a house wife and mother to their son, Vaughon. In 1967, the family moved to Plymouth, MI where Lloyd worked for GMC and Beulah worked for the City of Plymouth. In 1986, they moved to Sparks, NV near Vaughon and his children. Lloyd passed away in 1996.

A proud Norwegian, accomplished at cooking and baking traditional foods, sewing, knitting, and most proud of her son and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Vaughon and his partner, Nancy Cise of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Susan Hanchett, Erik and his wife, Susie of Reno; two sisters in ND; a niece and three nephews.

A service will be held later in Tioga, ND.

Beulah married Lloyd HANCHETT in 1948. Lloyd was born on 4 Mar 1922; died on 26 Apr 1997; was buried in United Cemetery, Tioga, Williams County, North Dakota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
