In the 1940 census, he is a barber living in Kasson in Dodge County. The family lives in the same rented house in which they had all lived in 1935. William had an 8th-grade education, his wife Dora was a high school graduate.

In the 1950 census, he and Dora lived in Phoenix. Neither had an occupation.

In the 1951 and 1952 Phoenix, Arizona, city directories, William is a barber for Towne & Country Barber. He and Dora lived at 4220 N 12th Street.

In the 1956 Phoenix directory, he and Dora live at 1433 E Orangewood Avenue. He is a barber for Windsor Square Barber Shop.

According to his death certificate, he died from coronary thrombosis due to emphysema. He had lived in Phoenix for 11 years. His wife was the informant for the information on his death certificate. She did not know the names of either of William’s parents, nor did she know where they were born.

At his death, he and Dora lived at 2444 W Devonshire in Phoenix.
