    Notes:

    He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, as Carl A. Ellingboe of Route 2, Kerkhoven. (There are two separate registration cards with essentially the same, but not identical, information.) His occupation was clerk in the store called Moen & Gandrude of Sunburgh. He was single. He was described as short and of medium build with brown eyes and red hair.

    According to the Minnesota Veterans Graves Registration index, Carl was a veteran of World War I. He returned from overseas duties in June of 1919. His gravestone says PVT CO I 54 PIONEER INF.

    In the 1920 census, Carl and Ella are living with Carl’s mother and siblings in Norway Lake Twp. Carl’s occupation is clerk in a dry goods store.

    His occupation was “restaurant man” on Dona Mae’s birth certificate.

    In the 1930 census, he has a restaurant in Sunburg. No children.

    On Charles Ellsworth’s birth certificate, he is the proprietor of a restaurant in Sunburg.

    In the 1950 census, he seems to be the Charles Ellingboe, age 20, “lodger”, with the Alvin Husby family in Decorah, Iowa. He has no occupation. It’s possible he was a student at Luther College.

    He was an Army Sergeant in Korea.

    He seems to be the Charles E. Ellingboe, Mayor, Sunburg, who placed an ad in the May 3, 1956, edition of the Minneapolis Star saying, “Prosperous community needs bank.”

    The informant for his death certificate was Mr. Steven Ellingboe of 2716 N.W. 12th Avenue in Willmar.

    Charles was divorced at the time of his death. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He had a high school diploma plus one year of college. He died from colon cancer.
