A funeral service was  held Saturday, March 1 at Roseau Community Church. Interment will be held at a later date at Riverside-Mickinock Cemetery.

Walter was born Nov. 8, 1930 to Gilbert and Selma Loe in Grimstad Township in the house where he lived until he entered Roseau Manor in 2005, due to a stroke. He was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska. He attended grade school in Grimstad and graduated from Roseau High School. He continued farming after graduation.

He and Melva Jenson were married in 1952 and remained together for the next 61 years. Blessing this union were three children: James (Sandi) of Royalton, Paul (Mona) of Thief River Falls and Mary (Greg) Lund of Cottonwood; six grandchildren, Dawn, Amanda, Jessica, Mitchell, Alyssa and Nathan; and 10 great-grandchildren. Walter loved his family and was extremely proud of each of his family members.

Walter operated a dairy farm until 1988, and upon retirement from farming, he had the opportunity for employment with the D.O.T. which he enjoyed for 11 years. He enjoyed several hobbies which included reloading ammunition and hunting in Wyoming with his sons. He was also a licensed amateur radio operator. A dream come true for him was getting his private pilot’s license and having his own planes and airstrip. Restoring old tractors also gave him many years of pleasant pastime.

What Walter enjoyed most over the years was the opportunity the Lord gave him to serve as a lay pastor throughout the area. He was blessed to assist Pastor Bob with services, Bible studies, Sunday school, and as a youth group leader. It was an incredible blessing for Walter to meet and have fellowship with all the various congregations.

Surviving Walter are his wife Melva; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a special brother, Gilbert, plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Manfred.

Walter married Melva Jean JENSON on 5 Apr 1952 in Roseau County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

James “Jim” Loe, 66 year old resident of Royalton, MN passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 while camping with his brother and friends in the mountains of Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Wayne Hjermstad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A second funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church in Roseau, MN with Rev. Steve Hoffer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Mickinock Cemetery in Roseau MN.

Jim was born and raised on a dairy farm just outside of Roseau, MN where he learned to appreciate an honest day’s labor by helping in all aspects of running the family farm. The enjoyment he gleaned from working with his hands would show up again and again throughout his life as many of his hobbies included: woodworking, gardening, building two-story tree houses for his grandkids, and taking apart and putting back together almost every car and tractor he ever owned. Jim loved to talk, as anyone who ever met him found out, but his disarming personality made you feel like you were a good friend who had known him his whole life.

After finishing high school in Roseau, Jim attended AFLBS and later went to school for carpentry. He would meet, fall in love with, and later marry Sandi (née Olson) on June 23, 1973. For nearly half a century, Sandi was his best friend and will always be the love of his life. The couple would raise their daughters Dawn and Amanda in Colorado, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes they loved to explore when camping, hunting, or both. In 1998, Jim and Sandi moved to Royalton, MN where they lived from then on.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sandi (née Olson); mother, Melva Loe (née Jenson); daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn (Aaron) Raff of St. Cloud, MN and Amanda (Joseph) Raiche of Vermillion, SD; brother, Paul Loe; sister, Mary Lund (née Loe); and nine grandchildren, Cassie, Ben, Adeline, Victor, Beth, Carissa, Caleb, Andrew, and Isaac.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Walter Loe.

James married Sandra Kay OLSON on 23 Jun 1973 in Roseau County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
