    The informant for her death certificate was her husband Fred. She died from abdominal cancer. A note on her death certificate said that an exploratory incision had been made 10 weeks before her death but “everything was a solid mass.”

    Registered for the WWI draft on June 5, 1917, in West Minneapolis. His address was Hopkins, MN. He was self-employed with a plumbing and heating business in Hopkins. He was married with one child. He was of medium height and build with grey eyes and dark hair. He was slightly balding.

    Living with his wife, sons, and father in a rented duplex at 46 10th Avenue North in Minnetonka Township, West Minneapolis Village at the time of the 1920 census (January 8th).

    According to a St. Louis Park history:

    The 1921 Federal-Aid Highway Act first created the notion of a national highway system. St. Louis Park had no car dealers so many residents bought Fords from Dahlberg Brothers Ford at 1028/1023 Excelsior Ave., Hopkins. On February 1, 1921, Oscar Dahlberg, Hilmer Olson, and John Schwister took over the Ford agency from Harry Leathers, who had had a car probably in the oughts. In 1953, Ward F. Dahlberg was the Business Manager, and Earl A. Dahlberg was the General Manager. At one time, Hopkins was called the car capital of the area, since it had three major car dealers.

    Oscar was living in Minnetonka township, Hopkins village, at 216 11th Avenue North (a $5000 house that he owned) with his wife, sons, and mother-in-law at the time of the 1930 census (April 8th). The household had a radio. Oscar and his wife were each 26 when they married. Oscar’s occupation is shown as President, Auto Garage. Oscar was not a veteran.

    He registered for the draft in West Minneapolis on June 5, 1917. He was single and was a lawyer living in Hopkins. He claimed exemption from the draft due to the need to support his father. He had four years of previous military service. He was tall and stout with grey eyes and dark hair.

    He was 1ST LT, US ARMY, according to Fort Snelling records.

    In the 1920 census, he was still single and was living with his sister Virginia Hovander and family in the village of West Minneapolis in Minnetonka Twp. He was a corporate lawyer.

    In the 1930 census, he is probably the Andrew Dahlberg, age 39, living in Edina with his wife Henrietta, 34, and their daughter Mary, 2 and 10 months. He was the proprietor of a garage. The household includes Ada Kelsing, 28, maid. The house number of their home is 4607 and the road or street is either Bruce Avenue or “Country Club.”

    In the 1940 census, the family still lives at 4607 Bruce Avenue in Edina. This is a house they own and it is worth $6500. Andrew is a lawyer in the collections business. He works 20 hours per week and had no income in 1939. He had had four years of college, as had his wife, Henrietta.

    In 1953, he was the business manager, and his brother Earl the general manager, of Dahlberg Brothers Ford in Hopkins.

    An article in the Star on December 9, 1955, describes Ward leaving the company to devote full time to his oil distributing business. Not long after that, Ward owned and operated Dahlberg Hardware in Hopkins.

    Bill Marsh may have purchased part of what had been Ward’s interest in Dahlberg Ford in 1957.

Anna owns the house, worth $7000, and it was the same house that she and Earl had lived in five years earlier in 1935. Earl had had four years of college, Dorraine had had one. Earl was assistant to the manager of an automotive company.

    Naval officer in World War II. Owner of Dahlberg Ford in Hopkins and was a commercial realtor and broker at the time of his death. Longtime member, and once president, of the Hopkins Rotary.

    In 1953, he was the general manager, and his brother Ward the business manager, of Dahlberg Brothers Ford in Hopkins.

    Earl built his large house at 12016 Douglynn Drive in Hopkins in 1954 according to the Hennepin County tax data.

    In 1986, at the age of 68, Earl became a real estate agent for ERA MB Hagen Realty Co. He was later a sales agent with the Eden Prairie Coldwell Banker office. In June of 2000, at the age of 82, Earl started his own company, Earl A. Dahlberg, Broker.

    Hovander, Philip W. August 19, 1919 - April 30, 2011 Phil was a family man and a true Hopkins native where he was born, raised and lived his entire life in four different locations on 11th Avenue. For decades he and his wife Doris (Davey) owned and operated Hovander Foods, once a Hopkins landmark best known for friendly service and homemade Swedish meatball mix and sausage. Devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church all his life, Phil's church and spiritual life was very important to him. Along with his wife and two daughters, he also loved golf and was a longtime member of Minneapolis Golf Club. He truly enjoyed his friends and neighbors and we thank those who visited him in his last months. Preceded in death in 2010 by his wife of 65 years, Davey, and in 2009 by his daughter, Deborah. Survived by daughter, Brenda Hovander (Mike Meents); son-in-law, David Horstman, and grandchildren, Lindsay Ergenekan (Can), Blake Hovander (Septimia), Eve and Camille Horstman and great niece, Michelle Kelly. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, May 21, at 10 am, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Road, Hopkins, MN 55343.
