  1. 1.  Earl Ernest MINSKE was born on 2 Apr 1896 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota; died on 23 Oct 1954 in Wisconsin.

    Notes:

Nothing in MHS death records for this name. Nor is there anything in SSDI.

This Earl Minske registered for the draft on June 5, 1917. At that time he was still single. He lived at 3026 15th Avenue S. in Minneapolis and was a chauffeur. He was born in Minneapolis on 2 April 1896. He was described as short and stout with blue eyes and medium hair.

In the 1918 Minneapolis city directory, he was a mechanic. He lived in Apartment 56 at 90 S 13th.

At the time of the birth of his first daughter, he was an auto mechanic. He and Francis lived at 22 S 10th Street, Apt. #4.

Earl E Minske married two other women in Hennepin County in the 1920s (the first of whom died the following year).

In the 1930 census, he is the 31 year-old Earl Minski, an automobile mechanic working in a garage, living in a rooming house in Milwaukee.

A brief mention in the Minneapolis Star’s 10 Oct 1933 edition (p. 17 in Vital Statistics) notes that he was granted a divorce from Hazel Maud.

He had five children with Lillian Esther Forehand in the period between 1935 and 1941 although MOMS does not have a marriage record for Earl and Lillian. Lillian died in Wisconsin on 9 Aug 2001 as Lillian E. Branch. More on the family that Earl had with Lillian can be found at The Sprague Project.

The newspaper article on his funeral noted that he was survived by his wife Lillian, five sons (Ernest, Ronald, Laird, Donald, and Robert) and one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Phelps. There is no mention of Dorothy.

    Birth:
This date according to his draft registration card and Minnesota Births and Christenings. The 1900 census says April, 1895.

Couldn’t find her in the 1920 census. In the 1930 census, she was Dorothy Minske, living with her paternal grandfather and his 2nd wife, Ernest and Bertha Minske, in Minneapolis.

In the 1940 census, she and her family lived in the village of Pine River in Cass County. Five years earlier she had lived in Minneapolis. Her husband John M is a farm laborer. John was not employed but was seeking work. John had a seventh-grade education, Dorothy had had two years of high school.

Her birth certificate showed that she was child #2 of her mother. Her birth was legitimate.

Her first and middle names were added to her birth certificate on 18 Oct 1967. Dorothy died of a heart attack associated with diabetes. The informant for her death certificate was her daughter, Mrs. Verlon Larson of Bingham Lake. Mrs. Larson knew that Dorothy’s parents were Earl “Minski” and Francis Carr. Dorothy died as the widow of Jonathan M Martin.

Neither Dorothy nor her children are mentioned at all in Frances’s obituaries.
