In the 1940 census, Raymond lived at home with his parents and brother Gilbert. Raymond had a 7th grade education and was seeking farm work.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enlisted in Eau Claire on 13 April 1942. (BIRLS says 22 Jan 1942.) He was released 23 Jan 1945 or 1946. Navy Muster rolls show he was on the Chicopee in September of 1945.
He is the most likely of the three brothers to have fathered a daughter, conceived in March of 1946 in Minneapolis.
Raymond and Alden moved to the Pacific Northwest after WWII and worked as loggers. They had little contact with the rest of the family after the war.

In August of 1957, he was charged with driving while intoxicated. He was fined $200 and sentenced to five days in jail.
He apparently was a Flathead National Forest employee. He is recorded as participating in a Red Cross First Aid class given to Flathead National Forest employees.
His Montana Death Certificate shows that he was divorced.
His address in Kalispell when he died was 215 2nd Avenue W.
His obit said that he would be given military graveside rites by a local veterans organization. He moved to the Flathead Valley in 1946 where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement due to ill health.
His obit did not mention his surviving brother, Alden.

In the 1940 census, he was Alden Karlsrude, a hired hand on the John Stiles farm in Wheatfield Twp, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Five years earlier, he had lived in rural Polk County, Wisconsin.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the 263rd Infantry. He is recorded as arriving in the port of New York on October 30, 1945, on a ship which had sailed from Marseille. He was recorded as Aldon H Karlsrude, T Sgt. He was discharged from the U.S. Army at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin on 6 Nov 1945.
He or one of his brothers fathered a daughter, conceived in March of 1945 in Minneapolis.

He and Anita Schlegel were the witnesses to his brother Raymond’s marriage to Nora Neese. Alden and Anita may have married but there is no record of it.
