He was a husmand med jord on the Steesrud farm in Vang in the 1865 census. His son Knut, his youngest child in the census, is shown as age 3.

Steesrud or Steinsrud is a plass on Gåsdeilde 29/.

Vang A, p. 519-520, says he was called “Gunnhild-Knut.” Called Knut Madsson Ellingbø on p. 465 of Vang A.

Knud was a great hunter (var ein stor rjupeveidar) according to the bygdebok.

He and his family moved to the U.S. in 1866. Knud’s son Jon, b. 1853, became a pastor in the U.S.
