    James Wilfred Emanuel passed away yesterday, Saturday, September 9, 2000. James was the second child of Albert P. and Margaret Rumery Emanuel. He was born on his grandfather's farm in Dodge County, Nebraska, on October 8, 1918. When James was three, the family moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, then on to Fort Collins where he lived until his graduation from Fort Collins High School. After graduation he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and on the onset of WWII joined the Army and was assigned to the Philippines. Captured by the Japanese when the Philippines fell, he was on the Baatan Death March and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner. He was initially held at Cabana Twan, Philippines, and later transferred to Japan by ship where he worked in the copper mines. James made the Army his career and retired in 1959 (?) with the rank of Major. He returned to Denver and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for a short time. He purchased a bankrupt store in Golden, Colorado, named Jefco Blueprinting, which he and his family built into a thriving business as the main source for college textbooks for the students of Colorado School of Mines. James is survived by his wife Helen and 5 children, Donald, Thomas, Margaret Black, Patrick and Stephen.

    James W. Emanuel of Golden, a business owner, died Saturday. He was 81.

    A Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 969 Ulysses St., Golden. Interment will be in Golden Cemetery.

    He was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Dodge County, Neb. On Oct. 27, 1948, he married Helen V. James.

    Emanuel served in the Army for 20 years, including defending Bataan. He was held as a prisoner of war.

    He formally owned Jeffco Blueprints and Books in Golden.

    He is survived by his wife; three sons, Donald and Thomas, both of Golden, and Stephen, Glendale, Ariz.; a daughter, Margaret Black, Denver; and nine grandchildren.

    James married Helen V JAMES on 23 Oct 1948 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland. Helen died on 26 Jan 2005 in Colorado; was buried in Golden Cemetery, Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
