    In the 1910 census (mis-indexed as Hariese instead of Hamre), he is a retail merchant of a general store in Granite Falls. He and his family live on the Yellow Medicine County side of the city.

    In the 1920 census, he and his family live in Velva in McHenry County, North Dakota. He is the proprietor of a grocery store. The household includes a servant, 27 year-old Ruby Williams.
