    Notes:

    According to obituary, he had a great physical handicap. If he did, it must have come after September 12, 1918, because no “obvious disability” is listed on his draft registration card. Jim’s site explains that Trond had both legs amputated due to diabetes.

    He is still living at home with his mother and siblings in the 1895 state census.

    In the 1900 census, he is a boarder with his brother Iver on the farm of Kari Lee, a 76 year-old widow (#23958) in Newburg Twp, Mitchell County, Iowa. This household includes two of Kari’s single daughters (Carrie, 41, and Julia, 39) as well as Kari’s 103 year-old (!) mother-in-law, Guri.

    Referred to as “merchant” on Marie Louise’s birth certificate.

    In the 1910 census, Thrond, 37, and his wife Ambjor, 39, and family are living in Dennison Village, Goodhue County, MN. This is Thrond’s 2nd marriage, her first. The two have been married 9 years and she has borne 4 children, all still living. The children living with Thrond and Ambjor are Amanda, 13, Ivar, 7, Marie, 5, Arthur, 3, and Helen, 1 and 7/12.

    In a 1914 land ownership map of Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, “T. I. Ellingboe” owned 80 acres in Section 19. The parcel was the east half of the northeast quarter-section and was just north of the village of Dennison. His neighbors to the north and west were Prestegaards.

    He registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Red Wing as Thrond Ellingboe of Dennison. He was born on January 2, 1873. He is a self-employed farmer in Dennison. His nearest relative is Mrs. Thrond Ellingboe of Dennison. He is described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

    In the 1920 census he is a farmer living in Dennison, Goodhue County.

    He is listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books), as “Thrond I Ellingboe Dennison Minn.” His entry shows that he was a member of the Samband between 1904 and 1906.

    In the 1930 census, he is Thrond Elingboe, a farmer in Dennison. Living with him are his wife Emma and their children Iver and Arthur.

    His will is listed in the Goodhue County Will Records, Volume 089 1945-1952, for the will year 1946.

    He was first buried at Vang Cemetery on 20 Oct 1945. Later, he was moved to Oaklawn where he and Ambjor share a gravestone.

    Notes:

    His birth certificate included the added surname WANGENSTEN and showed him as child #1. His birth certificate was amended in February of 1942. He was also shown as Iver T. W. Elingboe in the 1930 census when he was still living at home with his parents and brother.

    He started work at CF&I in very late 1936 or early 1937. He was a high school graduate.

    In the 1940 census, he was Iver T Ellingboe. He and his wife Esther lived in Pueblo, Colorado, where he was a steel inspector at a steel mill. They lived in the same house that they had lived in in 1935. Iver was not a veteran, he rented his house, and he had had four years of high school, as had Esther.

    In the 1948 Pueblo city directory, he is a pit foreman for CF&I.

    In the 1960 Pueblo city directory, he is an assistant superintendent for CF&I. He and his wife, Esther, live at 1614 Bunker Hill Road.

    Of Pueblo, Colorado, at the time of his mother Emma’s death. He and his wife attended the funeral in Northfield.

    Ellingboe Iver T. Northfield News Oct/1980 Iver T. Ellingboe, 1614 Bunker HIll, Pueblo, Colo., died Oct. 22,1980. He had been an employee of the CF&I Steel Corporation for more than 35 years until his retirement in 1968. He and his wife had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on June 10 of this year. He is survived by his wife, Esther; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Chandler of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Mrs. Helen Schmid of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Arthur T. Ellingboe of Dennison; nieces, Mrs Barbara Linn of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Miss Phyllis Ellingboe of Dennison; a nephew, Stanton Schmid of Seattle. An Elks service was held at the McCarthy Almont Mortuary in Pueblo on Friday, Oct. 24. The Elks committal service was at Roselawn Mausoleum. Memorials were made to the Pueblo Heart Unit, Box 1658, Pueblo, Colo. 81002.

    In the 1936 and 1938 Minneapolis city directories, she may be the Marie Ellingboe who is a social worker with the North East Neighborhood House. She lived at 1929 N E 2nd.

    She was director of that facility before moving to Seattle in 1938 or so.

    At the time of her marriage, according to an article in the Minneapolis Star, she was a social worker. She had been the director of the Northeast Neighborhood House before going to Seattle where she was executive secretary of the Seattle Welfare Council.

    Her sister Helen E Schmid was one of the witnesses to her marriage.

    She was Mrs. George Chandler of Vancouver, B.C., at the time of her mother’s death.

    “Helen passed away peacefully after 101 full years. She was a woman of unassuming dignity who brought delight and a genuine sense of appreciation to the many lives that she touched. We celebrate her journey.

    “Helen Ellingboe was born in Dennison, MN on Sept 9, 1908. After graduating from Mankato Commercial College, she spent 4 years working at the Mayo Clinic. While attending the Univ of Minn, she married Dr. Calvin Schmid, who was on the faculty there. They moved to Seattle in 1937, where he served as a professor of sociology at the UW until his retirement in 1972. They made their home on Whidbey Island until 1985 when they moved to Panorama City. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

    “She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Linn and Stanton (Lana) Schmid; 2 grandchildren, Robert Linn and Teri (Will) Anderson; and 2 great grand-children, Andy & Lexie. Helen will be remembered for her sense of humor, kindness, style and grace. At her request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Calvin F. & Helen E. Schmid Sociology Excellence Fund at the UW.”
