    Notes:

    According toe Cathy, Iver was from Lærdal. He may originally have used the surname Rhoem but then changed it to Olson and then to Lerdahl. No one remembers why the initial name change, but he reportedly was having too many mail mix ups with the last name Olson. He settled in Cyrus as a farmer and had 10 children.

    Witnesses to his baptism were Otto and Anna Steensland and Lizzie and Carl Steensland.

    In the 1930 census, he and Mabel lived in Virginia, Minnesota. Herman is a battery man for a garage. They have no children.

    In the 1940 census, he and Mabel and their two sons lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. The elder Herman was an aviator for an airplane company. Cathy says he was an Alaskan bush pilot in the ‘30s. The family returned to the lower 48 during WWII because the Japanese were in the Aleutian islands. In his draft registration for World War II, his employer was Wien Alaska Airlines, Inc.

    In 1947 he was a pilot for Northwest Airlines. A newspaper article in the 15 Aug 1947 edition of the St. Cloud Times says that that he saw a “flying disc or other unidentified object” over Billings, Montana, in the middle of the afternoon on August 13th.

    He lived at 5644 43rd Avenue in south Minneapolis in 1951.

    He was married to Daisy K Lerdahl at the time of his death.

    Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Audrey; children Jeffrey (Susan) & Catherine (John) Jylha; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; & many other family & friends. Special thanks to the staff at The Salvation Army Adult Daycare & Cerenity.

    Funeral Service Thursday (8/2) 11:00 AM at OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1390 Larpenteur Ave. E., St. Paul. Visitation one hour prior to Service at church. Interment at a later date.
