    At the time of the 1865 Norwegian census, he was an unmarried 32 year-old shoemaker living on the large (#20) Ellingbø nordre farm.

    Had daughter Sigri with Randi Olsd. Ellingbøe ("Bakste-Ragndi") in 1859.

    Emigrated 14 April 1866, age 32, unmarried.

    In the 1885 Iowa state census, he (as “F.H.” or “T.H.”) and his family live in Newburg Twp, Mitchell County, Iowa. Their farm is shown as the south half, NW corner of Section 6, Range 18.

    He was a farmer named Tollef Ellingboe, living in Deer Creek Twp, Worth County, Iowa, in the 1895 Iowa state census.

    He was L. H. Ellingboe (maybe T. H.) , still in Deer Creek Twp, in the 1900 census. Sarah and Julia were no longer at home.

    Living with her unmarried mother and half-sister Ingeborg with Anders Larsson and his wife Gunhild Andersdatter on the Hougen farm in Vang in the 1865 census.

    In the 1900 Norwegian census, Randi and Sigri, both unmarried, were living together on a farm referred to as “uden navn Plads uden jord under gaarden Thune nordre.” The two of them were referred to as “aannearbeide, dagarbeider (egne midler).”

    In the 1910 Norwegian census, she is living on Thune under 36 under 2 with her half-sister, Gurid Olsdatter Ellingbø (#6216) and Gurid’s son, Eilif Hermansen Ellingbø. Her occupation is “Arbeiderske (hus uten jord) dagarb. med kreaturstel. spinding, husstel.”

    In the 1940 census, she and Sam and Donald still live in Barton Twp, Worth County, Iowa, in the same house in which they had lived in 1935. Sam is a farmer, Donald is a seed corn salesman.

    She survived her brother Henry. He died in September of 1953.

    Her obit called her a life-long resident of Worth County and that she had been living with her son Roy in St. Ansgar at the time of her death.

She is living with three other nurses (called her “partners”) from various states, all but one of whom, with Gurena, are working for a private family.

    She is Gerena Ellingboe, nurse, in the 1913 and 1915 directories for Visalia City and Tulare County, California.

    In the 1920 census she was Gurena May Preston, living with her 27 year-old husband Charles, and her son Claude, in Lindsey, Tulare County, California.

    She died as Gurena May Preston and is so listed in the California Death Index.

    Henry registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Northwood, Worth County, Iowa. He and his wife Jessie Ada were living at Route 1, Carpenter, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was a self-employed farmer. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

    In the 1920 census, Henry has moved to Marshan Twp, Dakota County, Minnesota.

    In the 1930 census, Henry is an assistant shipping clerk in an implement factory and the family has moved to Hastings.

    According to his obit, he was born on a farm west of Carpenter, Iowa, and lived “near Carpenter before going to Hastings 30 years ago.”

    Neither he nor his wife are listed in the 1940 census.

    In the 1950 census, he and his wife and youngest daughter live in Hastings. He has no occupation. His household includes three lodgers.

    In the 1926 Duluth city directory, she may be the Ida M Ellingboe, manager for Stronge & Warner Co. and residing at the Spalding Hotel.

    In the 1926 St. Paul city directory, she may be the Ida M Ellingboe, buyer for Macey’s, living at 613 Wabasha.

    In the 1927 Minneapolis city directory, she may be the Ida M Ellingboe, manager of the Nicolett Avenue Hat Shop, residing at the Curtis Hotel.

    In the 1928 Duluth city directory, she may be the I Ellingboe, department manager for Freimuth Department Store, residing at the Hotel Duluth.

    She was Mrs. Ida Peterson of Minneapolis at the time of her sister Sarah’s death in 1961. Ida would have been the last surviving member of her siblings.

    She may be the Anna Ellingboe, nurse, listed in the 1915 Minneapolis city directory. That Anna lived at 223 West 15th and was a nurse at Eitel Hospital. That city directory lists a Marie Ellingbo right above her. Marie is a helper at the Norwegian Lutheran Deaconess Hospital but with no address. It’s possible that the Marie Ellingbo and Anna Ellingboe are the same person and that Anna Maria also helped out at Deaconess.

    She was Anna M Ellingboe of Lindsay, California, when she married Lyon.

    An article from the San Francisco Examiner, 12 Jun 1922 edition:

    “The romance dates back to the days of the war when a young ambulance driver, wounded in France, was carried into U.S. Evacuation Hospital No. 18 and placed in the ward of a pretty California nurse.

    “The driver was Wilfred O. Lyon. The nurse was Miss Ellingboe.

    “Then the scene shifted to 1922. El Zeribah Temple, in gorgeous array, was traveling through the town of Lindsay, California, bound for the oasis of San Francisco. An ex-serviceman in the garb of a noble leaned out of a car window and gazed into the eyes of the girl who had nursed him back to health in France four years before. Again fate had brought together Wilfred O. Lyon and Miss Anna M. Ellingboe.

    “The pilgrimage ended for them at the license bureau at the City Hall, and they were married shortly afterward … at the St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 433 Dolores Street.”

    She was living as Anna Ellingboe Lyon as of November of 1936.

    Clifford "Donald" Severson, age 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Monday morning, April 28, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

    The life of Don Severson began January 16, 1908, when Don's 10-year-old brother, Arnold, drove a horse-drawn sled to meet a doctor at the corner between Carpenter and Northwood. He took the doctor back to the farm three miles southwest of Carpenter and brought into the world a son to Sam and Sarah (Ellingboe) Severson.

    Donald Severson grew up to be a basketball player and baseball player at Carpenter School. He continued to play when he was out of school.

    Don lived in Illinois where he made sample hardware for salesmen to use as display for cupboards, etc. He moved to northern Minnesota and later moved back to Iowa. He married Icle F. (Greiner) on March 28, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and moved to the home place to farm and sell DeKalb seed corn. In 1953, Don retired from farming, and the family moved to Carpenter where he took the job of teller at Carpenter Bank and later became the manager. Don and Icle moved to Florida in 1960 where he got a job as loan officer at Pratt Whitney Aircraft Corporation. After 24 years, they returned to the Midwest, making their residence in Austin.

    Don enjoyed reading, politics and cars.

    Survivors include his wife, Icle Severson; a daughter, Kaye (Irving) Nagel of Rose Creek; a son, Bruce (Susan) Severson of Collinsville, Okla.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold, Roy and Lloyd.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin. Friends may call at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. Interment is at Woodbury Cemetery of Lyle. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin.

    In the 1910 census he is shown as born in Minnesota, his father in the U.S., and his mother in Iowa. In the 1915 state census, he is shown as born in Iowa, his father in Minnesota, and his mother in Iowa.

    In the 1930 census he may be the Charles V. Ellingboe, age 25, living in Alhambra, California. Charles is single and is a solicitor for an insurance company.

    In the 1930 Los Angeles Alhambra city directory, Charles V Ellingboe is a salesman for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He lives at 3 N Primrose Ave. Living with him at that same address is Jack Ellingboe, a salesman.

    He died as a result of the sinking of the fishing boat Ameco in Santa Monica Bay on Memorial Day, May 30, 1930. Heavy seas developed later in the afternoon and the boat attempted to return to Santa Monica but was swamped and sank quickly. Charles and his friend R. L Brown had gone fishing on the boat. Charles’s body was not recovered until June 20th.

    Charles’s mother, Gurena May Preston, executor of Charles’s estate, filed a $50,000 damage suit alleging that Morris Pleasure Fishing, Inc. was negligent in not providing a large enough crew for the vessel.

    His death certificate said that he had been in California for 13 years.

    James Henry “Jim” Ellingboe, 80, of Donnellson, passed away at 6:03 p.m. July 12, 2017, at Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health System in Iowa City.

    He was born Dec. 24, 1936, in  Hastings, Minn., the son of Raymond H. and Florence J. Girgen Ellingboe.

    On Feb. 19, 1959, he married Lorraine Doffing at Fort Lewis, Wash. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2016.

    Survivors include his seven children, David (Nancy) Ellingboe of Donnellson, Mike (Kelly) Ellingboe of West Point, Pamela (Dale) Kramer of Donnellson, Wendy (Roland) Burgess of Donnellson, Perry (LeeLee) Ellingboe of Hamilton, Ill., Tom Ellingboe of Keokuk and Scott Ellingboe (Jonathan Cabezas Olcoz) of Verona, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his Yorkiepoo named Dixie. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Betty Charles of St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Rita) Doffing and Dennis (Thea) Doffing, both of Hastings; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; and sister, Beverly Donndelinger.

    Jim was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington and the Donnellson American Legion. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Jim enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, canning and attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events

    Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant. There will be a flag presentation by the Donnellson American Legion at the church following the mass.

    Following the service, his body will be cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date in the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson.
