Notes:

In the 1910 census, Peter and Anna lived in Grants Pass in Josephine County, Oregon. They had been married for three years. Children living with them were a five-year-old stepson named Charles E Thoralph and their two daughters Alphild, 2, and Emma, 1. Peter is Anna’s 2nd husband.

His daughter Emma’s obit said that the family moved to North Bend in 1917.

In the 1920 census, they lived in North Bend in Coos County. Peter was a section foreman for a railroad. The children living at home were Alphild, 12, Emma, 10, Oscar, Nellie, 7 and one month, Alice, 5 and 5 months, Melvin, 1 and 9 months, and Edward Kirkeby, 13.

In the 1930 census, they lived in North Bend. Children living at home: Emma, 21, a telephone operator, Oscar, 19, Nellie, 17, Alice, 15, Melvin, 11, and Donald, 7.

He died from “lethargic encephalitis (sleeping sickness), the third such fatality within the past two months.” His obit noted that he came to the U. S. in 1905 and had worked for the Southern Pacific for the past 26 years. He had been a section foreman in North Bend since 1917.

Peter married Anna Elisæusdatter BYE about 1907. Anna (daughter of Elisæus Martin Eliassen BYE and Mali Johnsdatter FLORBAKKEN) was born on 12 Dec 1881 in Øvre Stjørdal (Meråker), Nord-Trøndelag, Norway; died on 31 Jul 1936 in Coos County, Oregon; was buried on 2 Aug 1936 in Sunset Cemetery, Marshfield, Coos County, Oregon. In the 1930 census, he was a longshoreman in Seattle. His wife was Leona, 20, and their daughter was Gloria, 10 months. The couple had been married for two years.

In the 1940 census, he was a longshoreman in Seattle. He was 35, his wife Beatrice L was 30. They had two daughters: Gloria, 10, and Patricia, 5.

In the 1950 census, he and Doris lived in Seattle. He was still a longshoreman.

In the 1940 census, in which he was living with his sister Alice and his brother Donald in North Bend, he was shown as only having a 5th grade education. He was also shown as unemployable.

He registered for the draft in Coos County on 16 Oct 1940. He was unemployed and was unable to sign his name because he was unable to write. He apparently lives with his sister Alice.

At his request, no services will be held for Donald E. Swanson, 79, of North Bend.

He was born Aug. 1, 1922, in North Bend. He died July 10, 2002, in North Bend.

Mr. Swanson had lived in North Bend almost his entire life. He served in the United States Army in World War II and was a member of the 1st Armored Division. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He worked for the Oregon State Highway Department and the city of North Bend as a surveyor. Mane people will remember Don as the man riding his bicycle in the North Bend area for many years.

He is survived by his sister, Alphild Vanderhoff of Klamath Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.
