Not listed with his parents and siblings in the 1895 state census or the 1900 federal census.

At the time that Adeline was born in 1908, he and Mattie lived in Akeley in Hubbard County, Minnesota. Emanuel was a station agent for the railroad.

In the 1910 census, as Emanuel Fautch, he and his family live in Enderlin, North Dakota. Emanuel is a station agent for the railroad. He and his wife Martha have been married for 10 years and they have one daughter, Adeline, 2.

As Emanuel J Fautch, he was a widower living on 1st Avenue with his family in Enderlin, Ransom County, North Dakota, in the 1920 census. He was an agent at a railroad depot. The household consisted of Emanuel J., 44, Marie, his daughter, 10, Rufus, his widower father, 69, and Mary, his sister, 22. Not far away on 2nd Avenue was the Emil F Wentland family where Emil’s sister Agnes and brother Alfonses lived.

In the 1925 North Dakota state census, he and his daughter Adeline live in Enderlin, not far from his brother J.G.

In early 1925 he donated a statue to the St. Patrick’s church of Enderlin in memory of his late wife.

In the 1940 census, he lived in Enderlin with his wife Esther and his step-son John. He was an agent at the Soo Line depot.

His death certificate claimed his usual occupation was station agent for the Soo Line Railroad in Enderlin, North Dakota. He died of heart disease. The informant for his death certificate was Neil F. Brown of 4805 11th Avenue South, perhaps a son of his wife, Esther Brown Fautch.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • MN Death Cert Checked: Y
    • Minnesota Death Certificate: 1910-MN-015409

    Notes:

Listed in the 1885 state census as five year-old Agnes, between Annie, age 5 or 6, and Peter, age 3.

Also seems to be listed in the 1895 state census as a 14 year-old male, “Ignatius”, between 16 year-old Anna and 12 year-old Peter.

Not listed in the 1900 census.

A 21 year-old Ignatius P Fautsch was born in Carlisle and lived in Waverly when he enlisted in St. Paul on May 2, 1901, for the Spanish-American war. He was described as having blue eyes, dark hair and a fair complexion. He was 5 feet, 6-3/4 inches tall. His occupation was “operator.” He was assigned to the 13th Cavalry. He deserted on August 10, 1901.

He may be the I. Peter Fautch, 24, a cashier, living in Benson, Swift County, in the 1905 state census.

Ignatius Peter Fautch died in Wilkin County in 1910. He died of pericarditis. His death certificate shows that his parents were Rufus and Pauline. He was a relief agent for the railroad.

He is considered one of Paulina’s living children in the 1900 census but not in the 1910 census.

    Died:
    Breckinridge

  4. 6.  Peter FAUTCH Descendancy chart to this point (2.Paulina2, 1.Pauline1) was born in Jun 1882 in Minnesota.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • MN Death Cert Checked: Y

    Notes:

Peter’s birth date is sometimes shown as June of 1883. That would be inconsistent with Katie’s birth date.

A three-year-old Peter Fautch lives with the family in the 1885 census. Ignatius Peter is listed in that census as 5 year-old Agnes.

Listed in the 1895 state census. Still living at home in the 1900 census as the 16 year-old Peter, b. June 1883.

Not listed with the family in Woodland Twp in the 1905 state census or the 1910 federal census.

By implication, he may still have been alive at the time of the 1910 census according to the information on his mother’s children: 12 total, 10 still living.

Not listed in the WWI draft registrations.

He is not the person in 1951-MN-018893.

  5. 7.  Kathryn J FAUTCH Descendancy chart to this point (2.Paulina2, 1.Pauline1) was born on 10 Feb 1884 in Minnesota; died on 31 Oct 1970 in Burleigh County, North Dakota.

    Notes:

    Or Catherine.

Peter’s birth date is sometimes shown as June of 1883 but that would be inconsistent with Kathryn’s. Peter is 3, Katie is 1 in the 1885 state census. Peter is 12 and Katie 11 (changed from 10) in the 1895 state census. Peter must have been born in June of 1882.

Single and living at home in Woodland Twp with her parents in the 1905 state census.

She had had only the one child (Gladys) in the 1910 census.

    Notes:

She is single, age 19, and a teacher living at home with her parents and siblings in Woodland Twp in the 1905 state census.

In the 1910 census she is Matilda Fautch, a 23 year-old school teacher living in the village of Albee in Grant County, South Dakota.

    Died:
As Mathilda G Fautch. Her county of residence was Ransom.

  7. 9.  Leo Vincent FAUTCH Descendancy chart to this point (2.Paulina2, 1.Pauline1) was born on 5 Apr 1888 in Waverly, Wright County, Minnesota; died on 17 Oct 1966 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington; was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.

    Notes:

Leo was a 22 year old railroad worker, still single, living as a roomer in Breckinridge, Wilkin County, MN, at the time of the 1910 census.

He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, as Leo Vincent Fautch in Stevens County, Washington. He was married with a child and living in Marcus, Washington, where he was employed as a clerk for the Great Northern Railway Company in Marcus. He was described as of medium height and build with grey eyes and brown hair. He claimed to have had some military experience due to one year at a military college.

He is called Leonard V. on his children’s birth records.

In the 1920 census, he is Leo Fautch (indexed as Foutch), 31, living with his family in Spokane, Washington, where Leo is a chief clerk for the railroad.

He registered for the World War II draft in 1942. At that time, he lived at 821 S Perry in Spokane. He was employed by the Great Northern Railroad. He gave as the “person who will always know your address” Herman Fullner of Spokane.

In the 1930 census, as Leo B Fouch, he and his family live in Spokane. Leo is a clerical worker for a railroad. He was not a veteran. Seven nuns, who teach in a “private school”, live four houses away.

In the 1940 census, he was Leo V Fautch, an accountant for a railroad. He and his family lived in Spokane. Their older daughter is no longer at home.

His obit said that he was a retired Great Northern Railroad employee.

Leo married Elsie Alice FULLNER on 21 Jun 1915 in Stevens County, Washington. Elsie was born about 1890 in Nebraska; died on 2 Aug 1953 in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington; was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    4. 34. William R FAUTCH  Descendancy chart to this point was born on 7 Jan 1934 in Washington; died on 18 Jun 2013 in Spokane County, Washington; was buried on 22 Jun 2013 in St. Joseph Cemetery, Spokane, Washington.

  8. 10.  Mary Vivian FAUTCH Descendancy chart to this point (2.Paulina2, 1.Pauline1) was born on 17 Dec 1891 in Minnesota; died on 13 Feb 1964 in Enderlin, Ransom County, North Dakota; was buried in Enderlin City Cemetery, Enderlin, Ransom County, North Dakota.

    Notes:

In the 1920 census, as 22 year-old Mary Fautch, she was single and living with her father and brother in Enderlin, North Dakota. She was employed as a clerk at a railroad depot.

She is not the Mary in 1926-MN-017307.

The Brenny Family Tree on Ancestry.com incorrectly has this Mary Fautch marrying John Dobis. The Mary who married Dobis was older and was actually the daughter of Carl and Franciska Fautsch, a family who came to the U.S. in 1890 or 1891.

Mary married Earl Emery OLMSTEAD on 16 Sep 1920 in Enderlin, Ransom County, North Dakota. Earl was born on 3 Jul 1891 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota; died on 18 Jul 1968 in Cass County, North Dakota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  9. 11.  Agnes P FAUTCH Descendancy chart to this point (2.Paulina2, 1.Pauline1) was born in Jun 1893 in Minnesota.

    Notes:

In the 1920 census, as 26 year-old Agness Fautch, she was single and living with her sister’s family in Enderlin, North Dakota. She was not employed.

Although her age is wrong, she is probably the 26 year-old Agnes Fautch living in Enderlin, Ransom County, North Dakota, with the Earl Olinsted family (her sister Mary Olmstead and family) in that state’s 1925 census.

In the 1930 census, she is still in Enderlin but now living as a lodger with the Robert Simonette family. She is employed as a telephone operator.
