Han har etterkommere i Tioga i USA VALDRESBYGDEN I GOODHUE COUNTY, MINNESOTA Det var vel helst om pioner-menn og kvinner vi skulde skrive og ikke om settlementer, men i de fleste tilfelle er de naturligvis knyttet så tett sammen at de er nærsagt uadskillelige. Vi vet også at mange av de mend som særlig har fortjent omtal e her, får en litt mer utførlig saga i avsnittet om fremskutte vardreser. Ovennevnte vardresbygd ligger ca. 25 mil vestenfor Mississippifloden i det sydestlige Minnesota. Den grunnlagdes i 1855, da nogen landsøkere fra Vang i Valdres ankom og bosatte sig. Blandt disse var John Helgeson Hamre. Nils Gunderson Lien, Eve n Syverson Brækken. Endre Thomassen Remmen, John Helgeson Glare, brødrene Haakon, Ola og Knnt Holiæn, Thomas Tasa, Endre K. Haugen og Nils N. Heen. L1tt senere samme år kom også Gudmund Norsving og et følge av et dusin familier med ham. Norsvin g blev en fremragende mann, valgtes til mange ansvarsfulle hverv, var medlem av statens lovgivende forsamling, en av valdrelagets første støtter, en bramfri genial, endefram hedersmann av det gode gamle slag. At endog sameget som nevne alle dem so m kom senere, går ikke an, men blandt mer kjente familier bør dog nevnes familierne Høverstad, Bøe, Eltun, Elingbøe, Søine, Lockrem og Østrem med flere.

    BOOK - HISTORY OF GOODHUE COUNTY, MN. PUBLISHED IN 1909 Carl N. Lien, Red Wing, who has a long and honorable record of public office holding in this and Ramsey counties, is the son of Nils G. and Martha (Holm) Lien, natives of Norway. The mother came to America in 1852 and located in Winneshiek county, Iowa. The father came a year later and settled in Manitowoc, Wis. They were married at Decorah, Iowa, in 1856, and in the spring of the following year came to Warsaw, this county, where the father carried on general farming until his death, in 1901. His widow followed him to the grave two years later. Carl N. attended the public schools and took a course in the Lutheran College at Decorah, Iowa. After a course at Northfield, Minn., at St. Olaf's College, he completed his schooling with a business training in the Curtiss Business College at St. Paul. Thus, well equipped with a classical and business education, he started out in life for himself. Between 1879 and 1889 he was justice of the peace, assessor and township chairman, and town clerk in Warsaw, and in 1883-85 was enrolling clerk in the house of representatives. From October, 1885, to June, 1886, he was transcribing clerk in the office of the United States surveyor-general, at St. Paul. He was then elected county auditor of Goodhue county, and from January, 1890, to January 4, 1909, served honorably and continuously in that position. Mr. Lien was married April 24, 1878, to Mary E. Johnson, who was educated in Carleton College and St. Olaf's College, at Northfield, Minn. She also taught school six years, four years in Iowa and two years in Goodhue county. This union has been blessed with eight children. Amanda, born July 29, 1879, married Elias Rachie, and lives at Willmar, Minn. Clara M., born October 30, 1880, married Ole J. Olson, a contractor and builder, of Sioux Falls, S. D. Anna married Edward Lidberg, of Red Wing. She was born September 11, 1882. Nels, N., born August 1, 1884, is deputy auditor of the county. Mabel C., born October 23, 1886, and Julia, born September 9, 1889, are graduates of the Red Wing high school. Conrad, born October 4, 1892, died December 31, 1893, and Carl, born December 31, 1894, died April 14, 1896. The family faith is that of St. Peter's Evangelical church, and Mr. Lien votes the Republican ticket. During the years 1908-09 Mr. Lien has been teaching penmanship in the Red Wing Seminary.

    Carl married Marit JOHNSON in 1878. Marit (daughter of John SIEFFART and Marit Knutsdatter REMMISBREKKUN) was born on 11 Aug 1853 in Winneshiek County, Iowa; died on 6 Nov 1932 in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Born Feb. 11, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; passed away on Mar. 17, 2003 in Seattle, Washington. He was a systems analyst for Chevron and designed their C.O.S. accounting system that was used for over 20 years. He retired after 28 years of service. While in Bellingham, WA he wrote his autobiography. Bill married Josephine Elizabeth Wald on Dec. 4, 1948, she preceded him in death in 1994. Mr. Rachie is survived by his daughters, Amanda Muir, Julie W. Rachie, and Cynthia Barrientos and her husband Rich; grandson Lee Barrientos; siblings, Dorothy Werness, Cyrus Rachie and Helen Groth.

    William married Josephine Elizabeth WALD on 4 Dec 1948 in Los Angeles County, California. Josephine (daughter of Dr Rudolph Henry WALD and Cora “Irene” SOMERSALL) was born on 30 Apr 1916 in Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota; died on 3 Dec 1994 in Mendocino County, California; was buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
