    Funeral services were held at the Vang Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, 1967 for Gilma E. Underdahl, with the Rev. John E. Fahning officiating. A hymn was sung by the congregation, and Mrs. James Johnson sang two vocal selections. Mrs. Cyrus Midge presided at the organ. Six grandsons: Paul Wardell, James Johnson, Gary Wardell, Thomas Johnson, John Rodde and Alfred Brandvold, Jr., served as pallbearers. Interment took place in the Vang Cemetery. Gilma E. Underdahl passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 18, at the Kenyon Sunset Home at the age of 71 years. The daughter of Johannes and Marit Lein Kasa, she was born May 21, 1896, in Warsaw township, Goodhue County. She was baptized June 28, 1896, in Vang Lutheran Church and confirmed on November 20, 1910, by the late Rev. A. Hauge. June 9, 1915, she was united in marriage to John A. Underdahl. They have seven children, two sons: Peter of Kenyon and Leroy of Dennison; five daughters: Clarabelle (Mrs. Alfred Brandvold), Marian (Mrs. Albion Rodde) both of Kenyon, Agnes (Mrs Arlie Johnson), Joyce (Mrs Truman Skaro) both of Dennison and Gladys (Mrs. Roland Wardell) of Minneapolis. She is survived by her seven children, twenty-five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Betsy Dalbotten of Kenyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, Her parents, one sister and two brothers, one of whom died in infancy.

    DENNISON--(Special)--Funeral services were held at the Vang Lutheran church, Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. for Joseph Kasa, 52-year-old resident of the High Prairie area. The Rev. Adolph Egge of Northfield officiated. Interment as at the Vang cemetery. Pallbearers were Theodore Frettem, Cyrus Midje, Helmer Kasa, Selmer Gilge, Ludvig and Thomas Soine. Joseph Kasa, the son of John E. and Marit Kasa, was born December 14, 1899 in Warsaw township. He was never married. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. John A. Underdahl of the Wangs community and Mrs. Betsy Dalbotten of Kenyon. One sister, Mrs. Sever (Anna) Simonson died several years ago. One brother died in infancy. Mr. Kasa engaged in farming and also operated a truck hauling milk from the farms to the Northfield Milk Products company at Northfield. On Thursday morning while he was discussing plans for building a new garage with two carpenters, Ole Midness and Oscar Kappedahl of Cannon Falls, he was stricken with a heart attack and died a few minutes later.

    Alice (Lien) Eggum, age 97, of Dennison, passed away Friday, September 6, 2019, at the View Senior Living in Cannon Falls.

    Alice was born April 26, 1922, the daughter of Andrew and Ann (Lockrem) Lien in Northfield Township. She attended Oak Grove country school, the same school where she had known Obert, her husband to be. Obert was a few years older and the families lived close to each other. He would give Alice and other kids sleigh rides to school. Alice’s sister lived in California and had wanted her to come out for work so Alice bought a train ticket and went to Southern California during WWII where she worked for North American Aviation as a “Rosie the Riveter” and helped manufacture the B-51 Mustang and B-25 Billy Mitchell. She enjoyed living in California but was needed at home to help care for her father. Upon her return, she began working at Carleton College. Alice was united in marriage to Obert Eggum on February 19, 1949, at Pastor Adolph Egge’s home in Northfield. The couple would be blessed with four sons. They made their home in Northfield Township on the family farm where they raised their family and farmed for many years.

    Alice had a strong faith and was an active member at Vang Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. She had a strong work ethic that was evident over her life working at the defense plant and farming.

    She enjoyed sewing, quilting, patching jeans, crafts and taking pictures. She also loved plants because according to the family, she just couldn’t kill them. She was also very thoughtful serving house guest meals or other homemade treats when they came to visit. Alice was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed and affectionately remembered.

    She is survived by her sons Lance Eggum of Minneapolis; Kevin (Connie) Eggum of Cannon Falls; Clyde (Chrystine) Eggum of Dennison; Bryan (Jennifer) Eggum of Dennison; seven grandchildren Jason Eggum; Kyle Eggum (Molly Nefstead); Courtney (Joel) Rustad; Andrew (Jennifer) Eggum; Joseph (Dena) Eggum; Justin Eggum; Erin (John) Spanczak; and ten great-grandchildren Rowan Eggum; Miles Eggum; Sam Kalow; Owen Kalow; Avery Rustad; Charlie Rustad; Breck Rustad; Alonso Eggum; Kaia Eggum; and Charlotte Spanczak. She is preceded in death by her husband Obert (2011); her parents Andrew and Anna Lien; four sisters Agnes; Irene; Gladys; Dorothy; and two brothers Orlando and Lloyd.

    Funeral services will be at Vang Lutheran Church, Dennison on Friday, September 13, 2019.

    Funeral services for Orlando Gerhard Lien, who passed away July 14 at the Northfield City Hospital at the age of 48, were held Monday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the Vang Lutheran Church with the Rev. John E. Fahning officiating. Lois Johnson was accompanied by organist Mrs. Cyrus Midge in two selections. Pallbearers were Oswald Lee, Myron Ellingboe, Bernard Ellingboe, Arnold Ellingboe, Ulysses Kalseth and Lester Kalseth. Interment was in the Vang Cemetery with graveside services by Eugene H. Truax VFW Post of Northfield. Mr. Lien, son of Andrew and Anna Lockrem Lien, was born June 2, 1919 in Northfield Township. He was baptized and confirmed at the Vang Lutheran Church, of which he was a life member, June 9, 1951 he was united in marriage to Meredith Haugen of Dennison, Minn. They established their home on the Lien homestead where he lived his entire life except for the time he served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. He is survived by his widow; three children, Russell, Rebecca and Douglas; one brother, Lloyd of Faribault; four sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Roy Husbyn) of Cannon Falls, Irene (Mrs. Francis Powers) of Inglewood, Calif., Alice (Mrs. Obert Eggum) of Dennison and Dorothy (Mrs. Lorry Starch) of Nerstrand and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Agnes.

    Orlando married Meredith Solveig HAUGEN on 9 Jun 1951.     Myrtle Josephine Dalbotten was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Warsaw Township, Goodhue County, attended a country school near Nansen and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1931. She and Thosten Quam were married in 1937 in Nerstrand, Minn. Mrs. Quam lived in or near Kenyon all her life, and from 1981 until entering the care center in March 1998 resided at Kingsbury Court. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and Kenyon Senior Citizens.

    Survivors include two daughters, Muriel (Mrs. Boyd) Langseth of Sandstone, Minn., and Diane (Mrs. Robert) Bemel of Anoka, Minn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce (Mrs. Harlan) Rosvold of Cumberland, Wis. Two brothers preceded her in death.

    Myrtle married Thosten Myron QUAM on 30 Sep 1937 in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Thosten (son of Anders Olaus QVAM and Clara Belle Marie STENBAKKEN) was born on 14 Feb 1908 in Minnesota; died on 24 Jan 1963 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Peter John Underdahl, 87, of Kenyon, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Reflections Home in Northfield, Minnesota.

    He was born May 9, 1925 in Warsaw Township, North of Kenyon, the son of John and Gilma (Kasa) Underdahl. One of seven children, Peter attended school through the 8th grade at District 128, Warsaw Township. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1943 and spent some time on the home farm until he joined the Navy in February, 1945. Peter achieved the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class and spent time at the Corona Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. As he was preparing to go in to the Fleet Marines, the Atomic Bomb was dropped and World War II ended. He then boarded the heavy cruise USS FALL RIVER in Pearl Harbor and was one of hundred of ships present to participate in testing the A-Bomb at Bikini Atoll. Peter spent 23 months in the military and returned to Kenyon in November, 1946. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Peter worked several different jobs in Dennison, Northfield and Iowa until he married LaVon Amundson in Kenyon on July 11, 1948, and began working at the Kenyon Co-Op Oil – formerly known at Tydol Veedol gas station. During Peter''s 20 years there, the company grew and expanded. In 1967 the Underdahls left Kenyon and Peter started his career with Lester Farm Buildings in Southwestern Minnesota. Peter was recognized several years as Salesman of the Year with Lester’s and also recognized nationally by the Rural Builders Association. He retired from Lester’s in 1988. After his retirement he drove school bus in St. James and Kenyon.

    Peter was active in local affairs including: President of First Lutheran Church in St. James, Minnesota for three years, Transportation of Veterans from Watonwan County to the V.A. Hospital once a week or as needed, and delivery of Meals on Wheels for the elderly and Shut-Ins in St. James.

    In 1997, Peter and LaVon moved back to Kenyon and enjoyed time for golf, travel and visits with their three children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Peter was a devoted husband, loving father, and a great bear hugger to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    He is survived by his wife of 64 years, LaVon Underdahl of Kenyon; children, Pamela (and Leonard) Boyle of San Luis Obispo, CA, Lynn (and Brad) Sturm of LaCrescent, MN, and Jerald Underdahl (and Steve Brandwein) of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Serena (and Scott) Von Ruden of Seattle, WA, Emily Sturm (and Bonnie Lohman) of Minneapolis, MN, Colin Boyle of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Kyra Siegfriedt of San Luis Obispo, CA; two great grandchildren, Odessa and Leo Von Ruden; sister, Marian Rodde of Kenyon; brother, Leroy (and Shirley) Underdahl of Dennison; many nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Clarabelle Brandvold, Agnes Johnson, Gladys Wardell, and Joyce Skaro, and brother-in-law, Albion Rodde.
