    Notes:

Buried as Knudt Thompson. Known as Knudt Thompson as early as the 1860 census. He was the first of his siblings to come to Minnesota.

According to Linda’s notes: came to America in 1855, built log cabin that ended up on the Dakota County fairgrounds, lived in Christiania.

Linda’s notes also suggest that Thomas and Betsy were Knut’s children through Sonova (wrong).

Knut, Ingri, Thomas (b. 12 Apr 1852), and Berith emigrated in 1855 according to the Vestre Slidre church book. Accompanying them were Berith Thomasdatter Ellestad (b. 16 Jan 1823) and Berith Gundersdatter Ellestad (b. 6 May 1854).

In the 1860 census, Knudt Thompson, 38, Ingre, 41, and their children Thomas, 8, Betsey, 6, and Severt, 5, were living in Eureka Townshop. Also living with them was an Ole Thompson, 62. In Tolly Swan’s Thompson papers, it’s speculated that the “Severt” is actually the son of the next-door neighbor.

In the 1870 census, Knudt, 50, was living in Eureka with his wife Susan, 50, Thomas K., 18, Betsey, 17, and a 5-year old girl named, apparently, Lena Johnson. Knudt was living just a few farms away from his brother Peter.

In the 1880 census, “Knut Thompson” was living with his wife Sonova on a farm in Eureka, Dakota County. Also living in the household were 60 or 61 year-old Kristi Oleson, a housekeeper, and 9 year-old E.K. Sun or Seen, helping out on the farm.

    His obit:

Knut Thompson, age seventy-three years and nine months, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Ole E. Forstrom in Eureka and the cause of his death was general decline. Mr Thompson was one of the oldest settlers of this county. He came to this country from Norway in 1854 and settled in Wisconsin, where he lived two years, moving to Eureka in 1856 where he has since resided. Mr Thompson was a man highly esteemed by his neighbors and those who were acquainted with him for his sterling qualities in all that goes to make a good citizen and a Christian gentleman. He has held several positions of trust and was for several years mail carrier from Christiania to Castle Rock. He leaves three brothers, Peter Thompson of Eureka, Andrew Thompson of New Market and Ole Thompson of Norway Lake, Minnesota, and two sisters, Mrs L Soine of Dennison and Miss Anna Thompson of Eureka, and a daughter, Mrs Ole E. (Betsy) Forstrom of Eureka. His wife Ingri preceded him in death in 1863. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Conference Church. Rev Elias Aas will conduct the service.

Lynn Stegmaier, curator of the Dakota City Heritage Village, provided this history of the log cabin that Knudt built:

“The log cabin was built around 1857 by Knudt Thompson, a pioneer from Valdres, Norway. He and his younger brothers, Peter and Andrew and sister, Anna Ellestad were part of a group of Norwegian immigrants who formed Christiania settlement near Chub Lake in Eureka Township, Dakota County, Minnesota. It was desirable land, having a good combination of timber, open prairie and water with a terrain that reminded them of the old country. Knudt Thompson was a carpenter by trade and his careful notching and fitting of the logs reflected his skill.

“Though the Indians had given up their rights to the land in the Treaty of Mendota in 1851, some Sioux lived nearby and paid friendly visits to the cabin.

“Knudt and Sonova Thompson and their children, Thomas and Betsy lived in the cabin for a number of years. Knudt deeded the cabin and land to his brother, Peter who had an adjoining homestead. It served as a home for their sister, Anna Ellestad and others. The longest occupants were their brother Andrew’s son, John who with his wife, Helga and eight children, lived in the cabin from about 1902 to 1917.

“The cabin was passed down and loved by younger generations of Peter Thompson’s family as a summer home. After vandals destroyed the interior, Peter’s granddaughter, Ione van Steenwyk donated the cabin to the Dakota County Fair in 1965. It was rebuilt at its last relocation in Dakota City Heritage Village in 1982.

“The old logs, which had been left uncovered by siding after its move to the Fairgrounds, became infested with carpenter ants, powder post beetles and other destructive insects. After consulting experts in engineering and pest management, the Dakota City Board made the difficult decision to destroy the cabin by fire in March 2003 before the insects resumed additional damage to the cabin and the other historic buildings nearby.”

    Notes:

He is Andris Thomassen Høyne, I33654, in Jim’s VS.

Buried as Andrew Thompson. Shown as Anders Thomasson Ellestad, age 26, in the Vestre Slidre parish record for his marriage to Randi Eriksdatter, age 22.

Referred to by Alison as Anders Tomason Ellestad. Shown in the 1865 Norwegian census as Anders Thomasen, living on the domicile of Høine in Vestre Slidre. Anders is the Gaardr og Selveier and he has 1 horse, 6 cattle, 8 sheep, 1 pig, 2 barley, and 4 potatoes. Living with him and Rangdi are their children Berit, Thomas, Erik, and Knud, as well as Anders’s parents Thomas and Berit and Anders’s sister Anne, age 22.

The FamilySearch entry is for Andris Tomasson, born in 1830 in Hoine III, Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway.

Rose confirmed that Anders got the family farm in Norway, apparently because Knut had left Norway earlier. Nevertheless, Andrew eventually decided that owning that farm in Norway was less attractive than owning a farm in Minnesota, especially with the letters he must have been getting from Knut and Peter. Peter paid for Anders and his family to come to the U.S.

Linda says Andrew and Randi lived in Webster, the township in Rice County next to New Market.

According to Alison, Andrew and his wife and family emigrated to the U.S. in 1877. According to Rose, they took the train to Farmington. Someone was not there to meet them so they had to sleep in a horse barn.

Alison, citing the Scott County deed, describes their farm as the north half of the southeast quarter of section 34, New Market Township, as of 1 Mar 1878. The family is recorded as landing in New York, aboard the Brittanic (from Liverpool via Queenstown), on June 11, 1877: Anders Ellestad, 46, Rangdi Ellestad, 43, Berit Ellestad, 18, Tomas Ellestad, 16, Erick Ellestad, 13, Knut Ellestad, 11, Marit Ellestad, 9, John Ellestad, 7, Iver Ellestad, 4, Olga Ellestad, 3, and Ingeborg Ellestad, 1. Everyone in the family is shown as being from Germany.

According to Evey: “My great-grandfather Thompson settled in the Webster, Minnesota area which is quite close to the New Market/Lakeville area where the Ellingboes still have their homestead.”

Census taker Peter J. Baetes or Baeten visited the “Andrew Thomson” farm in New Market township, Scott County, on June 22, 1880. The record is shown as image 17 of 20, page 160A. Andrew is shown in the 1880 census as “Andrew Thomson,” age 50, a farmer. His wife is shown as 47 year-old Randy. Children at home are 21 year-old Thom Thomson, 19 year-old Erick Thomson, 17 year-old Knut Thomson, 14 year-old Mary Thomson, 12 year-old John Thomson, 5 year-old “Ingebor” Thomson (female), and 2 year-old Johanna Thomson (female).

The listing of the youngest child as a female appears to have been in error.

In the 1900 census (June 17th), Andrew Thompson and family were living in New Market Township. The household consisted of Andrew, 69 (born Sept 1830), Randie, 66 (born April 1834), Knut A., 34 (born May 1866), Belle, 25 (born May 1875), William Carel, grandson, 10 (born Feb 1890), and George, grandson, 11 (born Aug 1888). The two boys are shown as “at school.” The boys were born in Minnesota; their father was born in Sweden. Knut A. is shown as married, Belle is single. The four oldest are shown as coming to this country from Norway in 1877. Randie and Andrew had been married 42 years. Randie had had 10 children, 8 still living. Andrew owned his farm with a mortgage. Knut was shown as a naturalized citizen, Andrew was still an alien. Andrew cannot speak English. The children were apparently Mary’s and apparently visiting because they seem to have been recorded earlier at their parents’ home in Minneapolis.

    Notes:

Known as Peter Thompson after he settled in Minnesota (and from the 1860 census on). Lived in Christiania. Buried as Peter Thompson.

“Life History of Peter Thompson Ellestad” by Thilda Marie (Thompson) Ruh

Peter was not born under a lucky star with a silver spoon in his mouth. His troubles on earth have been many. When nine years old he was sent a Norwegian mile along the King's highway on an errand to the minister. This was in itself a great task and Peter tried hard to remember what to say. He was ushered into the preacher's presence who thundered at him, "Take your cap off when you come to see me!" This scared Peter out of a year's growth and left him in doubt as to preachers.

At ten years old his father gave him a knife and a holster. This he was instructed never to lose. However, his first ramble in the mountains this disappeared never to be found and Peter feared the willow switch on spots most tender. Here he showed his resourcefulness in somehow obtaining a knife and holster which he carried and avoided the willow switch.

At the age of sixteen years old came the great event in Peter's life. He was to emigrate...leave father and mother, sisters and brothers and go to the great and then unknown America. Great was the preparation for Peter's departure. The sheep were sheared and wool spun into yarn for stockings, mittens, scarves, and underwear. A chest full of flatbröd, spike|yot (sic), cheese and all good food was also packed for Peter's journey.

We will pass over his leave taking of his people and on April 3, 1852 he started for Christiania via Drammen. Arriving in Christiania he found to his great dismay the boat he was to take had left. After a tiresome wait of four weeks the real ocean voyage began. Twelve weeks on the Atlantic Ocean in their sail boat they landed at Quebec via Montreal to Buffalo, NY.

Now about the middle of August aboard the steamer "Atlantic" on Lake Erie Peter awoke about midnight amongst the wildest confusion. The steamer "Atlantic" had been purposefully run into by the "Ogdensburgh" (the captains were bitter enemies) and the "Atlantic" was bitterly cut in two. Peter alone and unencumbered managed to get to the deck and climbed the mast and jumped into a life boat just as the "Atlantic" sunk. Of the 830 passengers, more than 500 men, women, and children drowned.

Peter was picked up by the enemy steamer, "Ogdensburgh" and landed in Chicago. All of Peter's possessions now were enough clothes to cover his body. The well-filled chest laboriously prepared went to the bottom of Lake Erie. Peter proceeded from Chicago to Milwaukee where the survivors were given $12.50 each. This was a great fortune and he went on to Koshkonong, Dane Co., Wisconsin on August 22, 1852, his journey's end. Here he met people of his Valdres and amongst them a beautiful blue-eyed maiden, Miss Barbro Olsdatter Noben, but Peter had his own to make.

    Note:
Entire document handwritten. Margin note: "This was translated into Norwegian by Andrew Veblen and published in the Valdres Samband issue of November 1916."

In the 1860 census, Peter Thompson, 24, his wife “Barber”, 21, and their son Thomas, 1, were living in Eureka Township. The value of their property is $200.

In the 1870 census, the family is still in Eureka Township. The value of their real estate is now $3000. The family consists of Peter, 36, Barbara, 32, John, 9, Antonio 7, Lora, 4, and Walter, 2.

In the 1880 census, “Peter Thompson,” age 44, is living in Eureka, Dakota County, with his wife Barbra, 42, and their children Anton, 17, Laura, 13, Walter, 11, Nels, 9, Tilda, 6, and Lilly, 3. Also living with the family is Peter Westenberg, a 40 year-old shoemaker.

The Peter Thompsons’ neighbors are James and Helona Pool.

In the 1900 census, Peter was farming in Eureka Township. The household consisted of Peter Thompson, 63 (born June 1836), a widower, Nels A., his son, 29 (born March 1871), single, and Lillie E., 23 (born April 1877), single. Nels is shown as a school teacher, Lillie as a housekeeper. (Nels is the census enumerator.) Peter is shown as having come to this country in 1852. Living next door was Annie Ellestad, 56, a single woman, born in Norway in August 1843 and having come to this country in 1887. Living a few farms away, and on the same census page, was Betsey Forstrom and her family.

In the 1910 census, Peter is living in Eureka with his single sister, Anna Thompson, age 65. Peter is shown as having come to this country in 1852 and Anna, who is still an alien, in 1889. Anna is a housekeeper; Peter has his “own income.”

Cemetery records note: Veteran of 2nd Minnesota Battery, Light Artillery (Civil War) Civil War records on Ancestry.com show Peter was a member of the 2nd Independent Battery of the Minnesota Light Artillery. He entered service and left service as a Private.

From the History of Dakota County, Eureka Twp, published in 1882. Peter Thompson is a native of Northern Norway, born in 1836. Came to the United States at the age of sixteen years and settled in Dane county, Wisconsin, resided there three years. His education was acquired in Norway and Wisconsin. Coming to Minnesota in 1857, he took a claim on the site of his present farm, and has since made it his home. Has held the office of town supervisor, and has been re-elected town treasurer since 1878. Married at Eureka in 1858, to Miss Barbara Oleson, of Hastings. Seven children, four boys and three girls have been born to them. Mr. Thompson enlisted in 1864, in the Second Minnesota Light Artillery, and served until the close of hostilities; was discharged at Fort Snelling in August, 1865.

From the History of Dakota and Goodhue Counties, published in 1910. Peter Thompson, of Eureka township, has the honor of having served as postmaster of Christiania post office for the long period of twenty-five years, and he would have been retained in service for a still longer period had not the rural free delivery been established and the office abolished. He has also been treasurer of the township for forty years, which covers nearly the whole time of his residence here. Peter Thompson was born at Ellestad, Lommen, Slidre, Norway, June 10, 1836, and came to America in 1852, settling in Wisconsin, where he remained until 1856. In the early spring of that year he pre-empted 160 acres of land in Eureka township, in sections 21 and 28. This he improved and prepared for cultivation, and has since made his home here carrying on general farming. At the beginning of the Indian uprising he went to St. Peter (Mendota) and joined a company, which was sent to the relief of Fort Ridgely. In the summer of 1864 he enlisted in the 2nd Minn. Battery of Light Artillery, going to Chatanooga, Tenn., where he remained until the close of the war after which he returned home to the farm. He was married May 18, 1858, to Barbara Olson, a native of Norway, who came to this country in 1851. To this union were born nine children, of whom six are living: O.J., now of Seattle, Wash.; A. N., now of Virginia, Minn.; Walter M., now of Duluth, Minn.; Nels A., now of Superior, Wis; Laura (deceased); Tilda M., now of Superior, Wis.; Lillie E., who is a trained nurse in St. Paul; Edward (deceased), who graduated from the state agricultural school; and one child who died in infancy. Mr. Thompson is a Republican in politics and the family are members of the Norwegian Lutheran Church.

He is listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books) as Peder Thompson of Farmington. He was a member of the Samband between 1902 and his death in 1917.

    Notes:

One of the Annes, to be known as Anna, came to the U.S. in about 1887 and lived in the Christiania area although she apparently never married. This Anne, born in 1843, is sometimes shown incorrectly as the wife of Lars Soine.

According to the Lomen parish record for emigrants, Anne Thomasdatter Ellestad, b. 24 Aug 1844 (baptized 13 Oct 1844), departed for Amerika on 9 September 1887 with Guro Johannesdatter Egge, b. 9 Jun 1856 (baptized 27 Jul 1856).

She is shown as Annie Ellestad, 56 (born August 1843 in Norway), single and the “head” of a family (just herself) and living next door to her brother Peter Thompson in Eureka Township at the time of the 1900 census.

This Anne was living with her parents and her brother Anders and his family on Høine in Vestre Slidre in the 1865 census. Anne was shown as having been born in 1844.

She is probably the “aunt” living with her nephew Nels Arthur Thompson in Duluth in the 1920 census.

In the 1930 census, she is a “lodger” at the Augustana Home for the Aged at 1415 Tenth Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Died as Anna Ellestad at the Augustana Home for the Aged where she had been living for 12 years. The cause of her death was coronary thrombosis brought on by arterisoclerosis. She was unmarried and had been a “domestic” for 45 years. The Welander-Quist funeral home handled her funeral.

The Ole Forstrom (shown as Fostrom) family were farming in Eureka Township at the time (June 5th) of the 1880 census. The family consisted of Ole, 39, Betsey, 26, Thomas, 6, and Eda, 3. Also apparently living with them was Thomas Thompson, 21, shown as “cousin.”

By the 1900 census, Betsy is a widow and still living in Eureka Township not far from Peter Thompson. She is 46 (born Oct 1853 in Norway) and came to the U.S. in 1855. Living with her is her sons Olai B., 16 (born Feb 1884) and Arthur J., 9 (born Nov 1890). Arthur is still in school but Olai is shown as a farm laborer. Betsy is shown as having borne 7 children, 5 still living. Also living with her, although also shown as “head,” is her son Thomas, 25 (born June 1874), and Thomas’s wife Tina, 24 (born May 1876). Thomas and Tina have been married for 5 years and have two children (Tina has had a third one who is now dead): Norris O., 3 (born Dec 1896), and Clarence T., 1 (born April 1899).

She is listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books), as Mrs. Betsey Fostrom of Farmington. She was a member of the Samband between 1910 and 1916. In her entry she is erroneously listed as the daughter of Peter Thompson.

In the 1920 census, she is shown to have come to this country in 1855 and was naturalized as a citizen in 1857.

    An obituary:

In the death of Mrs B. E. Forstrom, Dakota county pioneer for 82 years and highly respected woman of Lakeville, the community loses a beloved character, known and admired by everyone. To her friends she was Grandma Forstrom. News of her demise came rather suddenly Tuesday morning, September 27, 1938 at the home ofher son Arthur, where she has made her home. She was able to be out-of doors on Saturday for a walk. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the Arthur Forstrom residence and 2:00 o'clock at the Lutheran Free Church in Eureka. Burial will be beside her husband in the adjoining cemetery. Three ministers will have charge of the service, Rev J. R. Langsjoen, the pastor; Rev B. L. Sundal, former pastor; and Rev A. H. Gjevre, pastor of St. John's at Lakeville. Mrs. Sundal will sing several favorite requests of the deceased. Pallbearers will be Milford Halling, Rudolph Ruh, Sherman Torbinson, Oscar Shirley, Sylvester Steen and Carlton Leine. Betsy Thompson was born in Valders, Norway, October 14th, 1853. At the age of one and a half, she imigrated to the United States with her parents, arriving at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, from where they moved to Nerstrand, Minnesota, after a short period in Wisconsin. In the early spring of 1857, the family pre-empted a homestead near the Twin churches in Eureka township, where she lived until her marriage to Ole Forstrom, at which time they purchased the farm where Eureka Center is now located. There a family of seven children were born, two of whom died in infancy and a daughter, Ida (Mrs Ed Ruh) preceded her mother in 1905. Mr Forstrom, the husband, is also deceased. Those surviving to mourn the loss of a loving mother are Thomas of Montana, Edward, Robert and Arthur of Lakeville; also nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Mrs Forstrom will not only be missed by her family but a host of friends in Lakeville, Eureka and the surrounding territory will feel the loss of a kind friend and helpful neighbor. She had an unusual personality that won for herself friends wherever she went and this warm friendly spirit will live on through the years. 10-14-1853/09-27-1938 COMPILED BY JANE GILBERTSON NELSON

Jane Gilbertson Nelson also compiled the puzzling obit for “little Ole Forstrom” as well as this one for which there is no confirmation in either the birth or the death records of the MHS or of the cemetery record for Highview in the Dalby database:

    Notes:

Referred to by Alison as Erik Anderson Ellestad. Other names for Erik were THOMPSON, Edward A, THOMPSON, Erick Andrew and THOMPSON, Ernie A. Shown in the 1865 census as Erik Andersen.

dwfrench1 has no information on Erick’s wife or their descendants.

Family residence at the time of Erick’s birth: Høine Gård, Lomen Sogn, Valdres, Oppland Fylke, Norway

Naturalization as reported by Alison: 21 October 1897, 7th Judicial District Court, Long Prairie, Todd Co., Minnesota. Witnesses: E. C. Ellestad and Ben Gilbertson. Erick provided documentation that he made his initial declaration to become a US Citizen in the District Court of Dakota County, Minnesota. E. C. Ellestad may be Endre/Andrew Ellestad, perhaps the brother of the wife of Erik’s brother Tom and perhaps a cousin of Erik and Tom.

Came to live with Ole and Rose, apparently after his wife died.

Came to the U.S. in the spring of 1877 according to his obituary in the Northfield Independent on May 20, 1948. After their arrival in the U.S., Erick, his parents, brothers, and sisters lived in Farmington with Peter and Knute Thompson, his father’s brothers who “had already come and established homes. They made their home with them until they bought a farm in New Market by 1878. Erick attended public school in Dakota County. At the age of 21 his brother and he went to South Dakota to take homestead land, settling near Fredrick on a farm acquired by pre-emption. (Evey quotes her mother describing this as, “Someone had had a homestead there and had left it so [Erick] went to the courthouse and got a right to take that, you know, buy it.”) He, and later with his wife Gunhild, lived on their claim until 1890 when they moved to Hatton, N.D. (Rose said that the farm in South Dakota has “dried out.”) In 1892 or 1893, they moved to Clarissa, Minnesota. (Rose implied that they were going to Todd County because “Andrew Ellestad” lived there.) After a stay there of 25 years, he, with his family, moved to Waubun, and in 1940, he and his wife, whose health was failing, moved to Minneapolis.

“Mr. Thompson is survived by two brothers and one sister. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He leaves 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.”

Shown in the 1880 census as “Erick Thomson,” age 19, living with his parents in New Market.

    Minnesota Death Certificate ID# 1948-MN-003518

In the 1900 census, Erick and Julia are living on their farm in Ward township, Todd County. The family consists of Erick, 39 (born May 1861), Julia, 31 (born January 1869), Rosie, 10 (born January 1890), Anna, 8 (born Sept 1892), Mollie, 7 (born Mar 1893), Edward, 4 (born August 1895), Melvin, 3 (born April 1897), and Ellen, 1 (born Oct 1898). Erick and Julie had been married 10 years and Julia had had 6 children, all living. Rosie had been born in South Dakota, Anna in North Dakota, and the other children in Minnesota. Erick emigrated in 1877, Julia in 1887. Their farm is apparently mortgaged.

They are on the same farm in Ward Township at the time of the 1910 census in late April. The family is shown as Ernie A., 49, Julia, 42, Molley, 17, Eddie, 14, Melvin, 13, Ellen, 11, Ida, 9, George, 6, and Clarence, 4. Ernie and Julia had been married for 20 years. Julia had had 9 children, all 9 still living. They now own the farm free and clear, no mortgage.

In the “Benton, Meeker, and Todd Counties Minnesota Farm Directory, 1913-1914” (probably 1914 for Todd County), the Erick A. Thompson farm is shown as being in Sections 6 and 7, Ward Township, Todd County, Browerville Post Office. In addition to Erick A., the farm household consists of Julia, spouse, and Melvin, Ella, Ida, George, and Clarence, children. They had been in the county for 21 years.

The 1914 land ownership map of Ward Twp, Todd County, Minnesota, shows that “A E Thompson” owned 40 acres in the southeast corner of Section 6 and Julia H Thompson owned 100 acres across the road in the northeast corner of Section 7.

In March of 1920, the census indicates that the Thompsons were living in Lake Grove Township, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. Clarence, Melvin, and George were still at home.

They were in the same place at the time of the 1930 census. Erick A. is shown as 61, his wife Gunhild is shown as 62, George is 26 and Clarence is 24. The family does have a radio. (Erick was 68 at the time, of course. The census taker may have mistaken Erick’s claim that he was born in 1861.) The date of emigration for Erick is shown as 1884 and 1886 for Gunhild.

In the 1940 census, Erick, Julia, and Clarence lived on the family farm in Lake Grove Twp, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. They lived in the same house in which they had lived in 1935.

After his wife died, he moved in with Rose and Ole Ellingboe.

His obit said that he had been a patient in Sanford Hospital in Farmington for six months. He had moved his family to Clarissa in 1892 and stayed there for 25 years during which time he helped establish a church and a school, was a township supervisor, and served on the school board. He moved to Waubun in about 1917 and then, with his wife’s health failing, he and Julia moved to Minneapolis in 1940. After her death he stayed mostly with Ole and Rose.

His obit claimed that he was survived by two brothers and one sister (John, Johnnie, and Belle) and was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

    stomach cancer

In the 1910 census, may be the Olai Thompson, 49, living with his wife Mary in Seattle. They live in a house that they own, have been married for 26 years, and have no children. Olai works in the grocery business. Olai was born in Minnesota and both of his parents were born in Norway. Mary, also 49, was born in South Dakota and both of her parents were born in Norway.

In the 1930 census, he is probably the Olai J. Thompson, a 69 year-old widower, living alone in Elliott, King County, Washington. This Olai was born in Minnesota and both of his parents were born in Norway. He was first married at age 23.

Probably is the Olai J. Thompson, age 91, who died in Washington on December 10, 1951. The death certificate number shown here assumes that.
