Beatrice A. Hillbo, age 93 of Viroqua, passed away on Oct. 9, 2010, at her home.??She was born in Soldiers Grove, on Dec. 22, 1916, the only child of Soren and Millie (Erickson) Nundahl. She was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Westby and on June 22, 1940, she married Arvid R. Hillbo at Our Savior’s. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1946.??Bea was a graduate of Westby High School, Vernon County Teacher’s College, UW-La Crosse and attended Winona State University. For more than 35 years she taught in rural schools in Vernon and Crawford counties, retiring from Viroqua Area Schools in 1982.??She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, where she sang in the choir, served on the council and was an active church member. Other memberships include Vernon County Retired Educators, Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Vernon County Historical Society. She also volunteered her time and talents in many ways.??Bea is survived by her two children, Judi (Dave) Konop of La Crosse and Trygve (Barbara) of Madison; four grandchildren, Alec Hillbo of Phoenix, Ariz., Griffin Hillbo of Minneapolis, Ryan Konop (Gina Prange) of Victory, and Gina Konop (fiancé Shawn Miller) of La Crosse. She is further survived by one niece, Elsie (Wayne) Olson of Houston, Minn., and her family, as well as cousins and many friends.??In addition to her husband, parents and in-laws, she was preceded in death by her special Hoffland and Methum cousins and many friends.??In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to Southwest Prairie Church Cemetery Fund, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Endowment Scholarship Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.??Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan and the Rev. Margaret Eiben Hoversten will officiate with burial in Southwest Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

A ten-year old Myron Erickson is listed in the 1930 census as “grandson”, living in Coon Valley with his widower grandfather Lauritz Erickson.

In the 1940 census, as Myron Erickson, he is living with his mother and step-father in Washington Twp, La Crosse County, and working as a farm laborer.

Not mentioned in the obit of his half-sister Beatrice. Referred to as brother “Mike” in the obit of his half-sister Mary Hoff. He is identified as a son of Soren Ole Nundahl in an Ancestry.com family tree.

Myron "Mike" L. Erickson, 2105 Johnson St., passed away June 17, 1993. He was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Coon Valley and was baptized and confirmed in Coon Valley Lutheran Church. On Oct. 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Strangstalien of Westby.

He retired from Gateway Transportation Co. of La Crosse in 1983, where he had been employed since 1957 and previously was with the Ruan and Hillside Transportation companies, and with Dairyland Transportation Co. of Coon Valley. From 1937 to 1939, he was with the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a member of the Brotherhood of XCCCers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having been accepted for the token crew of the USS Wisconsin in 1942. Upon his discharge in 1946, he became a member of American Legion Post 116 of Coon Valley. He was a 25-year member of Moose Lodge 120 of La Crosse. From 1988 to 1992 he was employed with the Franciscan Health System in their Community Outreach programs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Dale of Fairfax, Va., Paul (Terri) of Onalaska and Peter of La Crosse; two sisters, Alice Stromstad (Emil) Brye of Coon Valley and Mary Stromstad (Howard) Hoff of La Crosse; and by a brother, Harold Stromstad of Kennewich, Wash. Two brothers and his parents, Joseph and Lena Erickson Stromstad, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Dennis Johnson in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston St., La Crosse, at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21. Visitation for friends and relatives will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 20 in Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley, and from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church Monday. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Post 116. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or to a church of choice.

Mary “Muggs” Margaret Hoff, 86, of La Crosse peacefully went with the Lord, Dec. 27, 2010. Mary was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Coon Valley, to Joseph and Lena (Erickson) Stromstad. She was joined in marriage to Howard Hoff on July 6, 1946.

Mary started her teaching career at a one-room school house in rural La Crosse County, continued at Smith Valley in Medary, Wis., and retired from Hintgen Elementary in the La Crosse School District, after 32 years of teaching, in 1986. She was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in La Crosse, and was able to celebrate their 60th Anniversary this past fall. She was also a 44-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, member of Sons of Norway and American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. After retirement, Mary loved volunteering at Hintgen and Our Redeemer Church, organizing golf leagues and spending time with family and friends on the boat. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, who will miss her wisdom, humor and strength.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Howard Hoff; son, Roger (Nancy) Hoff of Racine, Wis.; and daughter, Barb (Dave) Witcraft of Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren, Todd (Jen) Witcraft, Teri (RJ) Roder, Shari Hoff and Kristin (Nate) Schroeder; great-grandchildren, John and Claire Witcraft and Emily and Joey Roder; sisters-in-law, Gwen, Freda and Lillian; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Lena Stromstad; brothers, Harold, Dan, Sam and Mike; and her sister, Alice.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston St., La Crosse. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. A private family interment will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
