    Family records have him being born Dec. 24, 1852.

    On Dec. 24, 1877 he was united in marriage with Sara Jane Koehn or Cain. To this union 11 known children were born with only 6 living to adulthood.

    It is unknown if Sara married again, or where she is buried. She passed in Gosper County, Nebraska on April 21, 1927. 

    In the 1885 Nebraska census, he and his family lived in Stewart in York County.

    Barton married Sarah Jane CAIN on 24 Dec 1877. Sarah was born on 6 Feb 1858 in Illinois; died on 21 Apr 1927 in Gosper County, Nebraska; was buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Gresham, Polk County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    In the 1900 census, as Myrtle Dyer, she was living with her siblings and widowed mother in Seward County, Nebraska. In that census, she is shown as age 14, born in November of 1885. However, several family trees in Ancestry.com claim she was born Bertha Myrtle Dyer on 10 November 1886. Those trees have her father as Barton Nathaniel Dyer and her mother as Sarah Jane Cain or Koehn. All of the trees have Bertha Myrtle dying 16 Feb 1915, no location given. One of the trees shows her marriage to a Duffy, from which she had two children, a boy and a girl.

    In the 1906 city directory for Lincoln, Nebraska, she was a domestic working at the residence at 142 N 11th. She roomed at 1124 L. She was not in the 1905 Lincoln directory.

    In the 1910 census, she is probably the 22 year-old Myrtle Duffy, shown as single, living in a boarding house in Lincoln, Nebraska. She is shown as born in Illinois to parents born in Illinois. Her occupation is waitress at a restaurant.

    She is not listed in the 1911 Lincoln directory.

    Bertha married Henry Edward (Harry) DUFFY, Sr on 15 Dec 1905 in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Henry (son of James DUFFY and Rachel A IVERS) was born on 3 Jun 1886 in Lenora, Kansas; died on 3 Mar 1956 in Hennepin County, Minnesota; was buried on 6 Mar 1956 in Bloomington Cemetery, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Chambers officiated and Miss Helen Darling and Kenneth L. Butler attended the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Quinton will reside at 1035 B. Mr. Quinton has attended the University of Nebraska.”

    She arrived at the port of Seattle on 5 Jul 1955 aboard the U.S.S. General William Mitchell T-AP 114, having sailed from Naha, Okinawa, on 23 Jun. Her destination was Hq 5th Army, Chicago, Illinois. She was 44 years old and had been born in Lincoln, Nebraska. She had 13 trunks, 6 bags and 14 others.
