    Birger Morris Peterson, 91, of Biwabik died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, in the Virginia Convalescent Care Center.

    He was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Biwabik to Ole and Hulda Peterson. He was a graduate of Biwabik High School and later worked in Tennessee for Longyear Drilling Co. When he returned to Biwabik, he began working for Lake Mine and later married Helen Cartwright on July 19, 1938, in Biwabik. Helens father, the Rev. Arthur Cartwright, performed the marriage ceremony. Birger then worked for Erie Mining Co. and retired from LTV Mining Co. as a clerk.

    He was a member of the Community United Church of Christ, the Biwabik Masonic Lodge and was a fomer board member for the Horace Mann High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time at the lake. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Survivors include his son, Daniel (Sharon) Peterson, of Lakeland; a daughter, Loretta (Tom) Edwards, of Biwabik; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; brothers, Ted and Hilding; and sisters, Dagne and Inga.

    Birger married Helen Muriel CARTWRIGHT on 19 Jul 1938 in St. Louis County, Minnesota. Helen (daughter of Arthur CARTWRIGHT and Kate Irene NICHOLLS) was born on 3 Apr 1918 in Crow Wing County, Minnesota; died on 10 Nov 1984 in St. Louis County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
