He was a truck driver in Los Angeles in the 1930 census. He was a veteran of the World War.

In the 1940 census, he is Lyle A Hurbert. He and his wife (his first cousin Corinne Pulford) live in Beverly Hills. Lyle is still a truck driver, now for building construction. Living in the household is Corinne’s 23 year-old daughter Frances M Johnson.

In the 1947 obit for his first cousin, Bertram Pulford, Bertram’s sister Corinne is referred to as Mrs. Lyle “Hurlburt” of Los Angeles.

In the 1940 census, as Roland “Hulbert”, he lives with his mother and brother in Beverly Hills. He is a clerk at a rubber tire manufacturer.

He died as Roland Hulbert so apparently the spelling of the surname for him, his brother, and his mother in the 1940 census was intentional and reflected a name change.
