Sherman sailed on the Virginia from Los Angeles on 6 June 1937, bound for New York. He arrived in New York on 21 Jun 1937. His address in the U.S. was 1022-3/4 No. Sweetzer, Los Angeles. The ship’s manifest shows that he was born in Salt Lake City.

Sherman enlisted in World War II on 6 April 1944 in Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California. He was married, had four years of college, and his civilian occupation was blueprinter or photostat operator.

In the 1950 census, he and his family lived in Long Beach. He was a personnel statistician for the ship yards.

SHEILA COXE OBITUARY
Died September 3, 2012 in Fridley, MN Preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Eula Jane (Chastain) Cox. Born March 23, 1943, Sheila received her Ph.D. in Neuropsychology from the University of Minnesota in 1982. A resident of St. Paul of over 33 years. She is survived by her brother, Gerald, cousins Bob and Mary, John and Eunita, Wallace, of Bartlesville, OK, cousins Elizabeth and Bob, Steve and Tricia and Barbara McColley, of Phoenix, AZ. John and Dianna of Moscow ID. A kind and compassionate friend, she is mourned by many. Services will be on Saturday at Walker-Brown Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Interment in the GAR cemetery, Miami, OK.
