In the 1900 census, she is age 4, born June 1895 in Minnesota.

In the 1910 census, she is age 15.

In the 1920 census, she is the 22 year-old Ida Kloster, wife of Peter G or Peter S, who lives in Nunda Twp, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Peter was born in Illinois in 1896 or 1897. That woman’s maiden name was Thompson, her father was born in Norway and her mother in Iowa.

In the 1930 census, she is a 32 year-old divorcee living with her children in Community Acres, Multnomah County, Oregon, as DeEtta Kloster. She is a saleswoman in a department store.

In the 1940 census, she is the 43 year-old Etta McPherson, wife of Leonard, age 48 and born in Massachusetts. That household, which includes Etta’s youngest son Marvin, is in Coquille, Coos County, Oregon. Five years earlier, all three had lived in Marshfield in Coos County. Leonard is an automobile salesman.

The Oregon Death Index records two entries for the death of Etta Macpherson, husband’s name L: 3 Jul 1954 in Deschutes County, and 15 Nov 1955 in Multnomah County. Her and Leonard’s last entry in the city directories was in the 1948 Coos Bay, Oregon, city directory in which Leonard M and Etta MacPherson lived at 630 N Heath in Coos Bay.

In the 1928 Portland city directory, she’s listed as living with her parents at 1494 Mason. She has no occupation listed.

In the 1930 census, she lives with her mother and siblings in Multnomah County, Oregon. She has no occupation.

In the 1931 Portland city directory, she’s a domestic living at 417 E 55th.

In the 1940 census, Tim and Alice lived in Portland. They had no children. She was a stenographer for a wholesale lumber company. Tim was an assistant bookkeeper for a wholesale and retail machinery company.

Alice married Timothy F MAGINNIS on 10 Aug 1937 in Coos County, Oregon. Timothy was born on 6 Nov 1913 in Oregon; died on 8 Feb 2013 in Oregon. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

George Milton Howard Kloster, b. 2 Apr 1919 in Freeborn County, Minnesota; declared dead 2 Jan 1946, and honored at the Honolulu Memorial. He had been a Motor Machinist’s Mate, 1st Class, in the U.S. Navy.

At the time of his death he was married to Ellen Adams Kloster, 519 Bank Street, (either Coquille, Oregon, or New London, Connecticut). He was killed or missing in action as of 11 July 1943, and was considered a casualty of World War II. His last ship had been the U.S.S. Runner (SS 275), a Gato-class submarine that had left Midway on 27 May 1943 bound for the Kuril Islands. On June 26, 1943, she was believed to have sunk the Japanese passenger and cargo ship, the Shinryo Maru. The Runner was declared overdue and presumably lost in July of 1943.

Marvin Jerome Kloster, b. 2 Oct 1923 in Oregon; d. 16 Jul 1943 in Santa Barbara County, California.

Marvin had enlisted in the Army in Portland, Oregon, on 7 Apr 1943. He is buried in Sunset Cemetery in Marsfield, Oregon. His military headstone was applied for by his mother, “Ida De Etta MacPherson,” (her signature) of 630 N. Heath Street (probably of Marshfield), on July 20, 1944. Marvin was a Private in the 154th Engineers.
