Her death certificate identifies her father as Severson. Her mother’s name was unknown to her son Arthur who was the informant. She died from a cerebral hemorrhage.

In a 1912 land ownership map, Lena H Bye owned about 180 acres in the northeast quarter of Section 24 of Tumuli Twp in Otter Tail County. That parcel is still ascribed to her (Lena H Bye) in the 1934 Fergus Falls rural directory. The particulars were 156.61 acres in section 24 of the Tumuli township.

In the 1905 Fergus Falls city directory, he was an employee at the state hospital.

In the 1910 census, he was a 26 year-old farmer in Tumuli Twp in Otter Tail County.

He registered for the draft as Arthur Wheeler Bye in Fergus Falls on September 12, 1918. He said that his age was 35 and that he was born on February 18, 1883 (which may be incorrect). His address was Dalton in Otter Tail County. He was the manager of Farmers’ Grain and Lumber. His nearest relative was Mrs. Jessie Bye of Dalton. He was of medium height and build with brown eyes and brown hair. He had lost two fingers.

In the 1920 census he was a 36 year-old farmer in Tumuli Twp, Otter Tail County.

In the 1930 census (indexed as Bys) he and his wife and three youngest daughters own a dairy farm in Hayland Twp, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. Arthur is 46, Jessie is 49.

An Arthur Bye, b. 18 Feb 1884, died in August of 1965, location unknown although his SS# had been issued in Illinois before 1951.

Arthur was the informant for his mother’s death certificate.

In the 1920 census he is shown as a “brother-in-law” and living with the Arthur Thoresen family in Minneapolis where Cecil (entered as “Cisile Bai”) is a mechanic in an auto garage. He was recorded twice in the 1920 census, once with his sister and family in Minneapolis and once with his parents in Dalton, Otter Tail County.

In the 1930 census, he and his family (which included his father-in-law and two brothers-in-law) lived at 116 Bancroft Avenue in Fergus Falls. Cecil was an automobile mechanic.

In the 1931 city directory, he and Henrietta live at 116 Bancroft. He is a mechanic for Johnson Motor Co.

In the 1935/36 Fergus Falls city directory, he was a trucking contractor. He and Henrietta lived at 116 Bancroft Avenue.

In the 1937/38 Fergus Falls city directory, his entry is “Moved to Minneapolis, Minn.”

His wife Henrietta was the informant for his death certificate. Cecil died of pneumonia. He had been a foreman for a freight company. His usual residence was 5659 Major Avenue North in Brooklyn Center.

The Rev. Cecil M. Johnson, 87, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in the nursing home.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Minot, N.D., where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1935. In 1940, he earned an education degree from Minot State University. From 1940 to 1941, he taught high school in Zahl, N.D. From 1941 to 1943, he worked for Lockheed Aircraft, Los Angeles. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Eleanor Granstrom in Appam, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Luther Seminary, St. Paul. From 1949 to 1956, he served at a four-point parish in Starkweather, N.D. He then served at a two-point parish in Pelican Rapids, Minn., until 1969. He received an honorary doctorate from Concordia College in 1969. From 1969 to 1981, he served as district president (bishop) of the northern Minnesota district of the American Lutheran Church. He worked for Oak Grove (Minn.) Lutheran High School from 1981 until his retirement in 1983. She died in 2004.

He is survived by a son, The Rev. Timothy (Susan), Anoka, Minn.; two daughters, Kathryn Benson, Moorhead, Sita (Norman) Johnson, Richfield, Minn.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, and Tuesday from 10 to 11 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Funeral: Tuesday at 11 in the church.

Carlton P. Bye, born: July 31, 1928 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died: November 12, 2021 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, at Sunrise Assisted Living.

He was born on July 31, 1928 in Fergus Falls, MN to Cecil S. and Henrietta (nee Pederson) Bye. The family later moved to Minneapolis, MN where Carl met his future bride, Audrey L. Smith. They were married on October 25, 1950 and raised three children.

Carlton was fascinated by airplanes and worked hard to afford flying lessons and obtained his pilot's license when he was just a teenager. He enlisted in the Navy at age 20 and trained to fly his beloved Corsair aircraft and served on the aircraft carrier, U.S. Leyte. He was honorably discharged on 11/12/53 but remained in the Naval Reserve for 20 years. He was employed by United Air Lines until his retirement in 1988, retiring as Captain on the Boeing 747. He was also an active member of the Illinois Masonic Lodge.

After retiring, Carl and Audrey spend their summers in McHenry, IL and were snowbirds in Sarasota, FL during the winter. He enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends. He was deeply concerned about the political climate in our country and was a staunch patriot to the end.

Carlton is survived by his loving daughter, Cindy (Bill) Tegtmeier; Granddaughters Amy (Ben) Pusakulich and Kimberly (Gabe Romero) Tegtmeier; Great-granddaughters Shayla and Tea Pusakulich; great-grandson, Austin Romero; and former daughter-in-law, JoAnne Grabowski.

In addition to his wife, Audrey, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael C. Bye, and daughter Charlene Clouse.
