He registered for the draft in Thief River Falls in 1917. At that time, he was a section man for the Great Northern Railway, was married, and lived in Thief River Falls. He was of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair.

Living next to, or perhaps with, the John Jorgens family in Mower County in the 1920 census.

In the 1930 census, Oscar and his family lived at 941 14th Avenue in Minneapolis. Oscar was a grain shoveler at an elevator.

According to his death certificate, he died from a skull fracture after he fell from a moving car in Bloomington. Oscar was an engineer at a grain elevator. He and his wife, who was the informant for his death certificate, lived at 4349 40th Avenue S.

His death is described in an article in the 21 Jun 1939 edition of the Minneapolis Star:

Police and deputy sheriffs Tuesday were investigating the death in General Hospital of Oscar Skogstad, 43, of 4340 40th Avenue S who died of a fractured skull. Skogstad’s son, Clifford, said his father leaped out of the rear window of an automobile near 94th Street and Lyndale Ave Sunday night. Clifford said he was driving the automobile, which contained Mr. and Mrs. Skogstad, their two daughters and a friend. The father did not give any indication of his intent to leap, Clifford said, and no reason could be given for his action.

George N. Skogstad was a veteran of WWI according to the Minnesota Veterans Registration Index. He is buried in Mower County.

He registered for the draft on May 28, 1918, in Pennington County. At the time, he was employed in Thief River Falls by the Minneapolis Bridge Company although he gave his home address as Grand Meadow. He had blue eyes and brown hair. His nearest relative was Oscar Skogstad of Thief River Falls.

He was a hired man on a farm in Frankford Twp in the 1920 census not far from the farm of his uncle Emil.

He married his first cousin, the daughter of his uncle Emil.

In the 1930 census, Bert and Marie were living with her parents and her two siblings in Mower County.

At the time of death, he lived in Grand Meadow where he had been an agent for the Shell Oil Company for two-and-a-half years. He died of pneumonia. George Skogstad of Grand Meadow was the informant for his death certificate.

Bert served in WWI according to the Minnesota Veterans Graves Registration Index. He is buried in Mower County.

Harriet L. Holscher, 89, of Cambridge, formerly of Minneapolis passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Mt. Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother. 

Harriet was born on May 12, 1922 in Grand Meadow, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Nora Skogstad, husband William Holscher, six brothers and one sister.

Harriet is survived by her daughters Lorraine and husband Larry Sarek of Cook, Minn., Kathleen Holscher of Minneapolis, grandson Jesse Holscher of St. Paul, sister Katherine Tackelson of Brook Park, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. David Everett officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Cambridge.

The funeral for Carol Queensland will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ann Siverling officiating. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Grand Meadow.

Mrs. Queensland, 84, of Grand Meadow, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2008) at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center, where she had resided for a little more than three years.

Carol H. Skogstad was born March 14, 1923, in rural Grand Meadow, and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1941. She went on to teach in rural schools around Grand Meadow. On Aug. 11, 1945, she married Clarence Queensland at her parents' home. Mrs. Queensland was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, reading, taking walks, coffee with friends, babysitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and visiting cousins in Seattle.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie (Steve) Hovda of Grand Meadow and Lori Pier of Winona; a son, Dale (Susan) of Grand Meadow; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1993.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grand Meadow Lutheran Church, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.

Dolores Skogstad was born Oct. 8, 1924, in rural Grand Meadow, near Bear Creek. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1943. While going to school, she worked at the telephone office in Grand Meadow. Following graduation, she worked at Nashold's Cafe and Waters Conley in Rochester. On Sept. 13, 1946, she married Edwin Guy, and they farmed in the Grand Meadow area for several years. After moving to Grand Meadow, her husband worked as a mechanic and she was a homemaker rearing 10 children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, flowers and plants.

Survivors include her children, James Olson of Grand Meadow, Gary (Jeanie) Guy of Spring Valley, David Guy of Stewartville, Steven (Sharon) Guy of Elkton, Richard (Chris) Guy, Donna Guy, Patrick Guy, Michael Guy and Sherrie Scrabeck (Kevin Queensland), all of Grand Meadow, and Deanna Guy of McIntire, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.
