From the February, 1938, St. Olaf alumni magazine: “A sum of money has been presented to the Department of Art in memory of Mrs. John M. Ellingboe of Northfield, Minnesota. The gift comes from Mrs. Anna Rorvik of Northfield and the employees of Augsburg Publishing House. Mr. John L. Ellingboe, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ellingboe, is connected with the Augsburg Publishing House as chief artist.”

From an obit in the 14 January 1938 edition of the Faribault Daily News: “Her death coming as a shock to her host of friends in the Norfhfield community, Mrs. John M. Ellingboe, wife of a prominent Northfield businessman, died suddenly late Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Ellingboe had attended a meeting of her circle of St. John’s Ladies’ Aid society at the home of Mrs. George Howser Thursday afternoon, and seemed to be in her usual health and good spirits. Leaving the meeting she accompanied Mrs. Arne Winger, Mrs. M. E. Waldeland, Mrs. H. J. Westwood, and Mrs. Ernest Olson in the latter’s automobile. When the automobile reached the corner of Division and Fourth street, Mrs. Ellingboe suddenly gasped and slumped against her companion, Mrs. Winger, in the back seat. To summon medical help the car was immediately turned around, driven less than half a block, and stopped in front of the Ellingboe store on Bridge Square, but Mrs. Ellingboe had already passed away, her death being attributed to a stroke of apoplexy. Pending the arrival of her son and two daughters, plans for funeral services had not been completed Thursday evening, but it is probable the services will be held Monday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran church.”

She graduated from Garfield County High School in 1940 as class valedictorian, attended Colorado Woman's College for two years earning an Associate of Arts, and graduated from Colorado College with a degree in Bus. Admin and Banking in 1944. Her husband of 63 years, Frank, and her parents Herschel and Louella Reich preceded her in death. The family would like to thank the staff of The Village in Centennial, CO for their wonderful support and care over the last few years. Virginia will be missed by her children and grand children: Gary Martin (Polly); Christie Ehmann (Walter, Ehren 32, Adriane 27); Colleen Mallgren (Tony, Evan (Courtney) 29, Wes 27); Ken Martin (Christy, Mackey 26, Tammy (Daniel) Crawford 24, Justin 22, Jefferson 20, Hannah 21, Mattie 18) and Brent Martin (Lisa, Ava 14); and her great grandchild, Josiah Crawford. Her sister Allene Robson, nieces Meg Mahoney, Deb Robson, and their families will also miss her. Virginia was the essential "beloved mother" who kept the household together and pointed in the right direction. She dedicated her life to her family. A pleasure to spend time with, she quietly and humbly lived a life of excellence. She was the foundation of our family and one of the pillars of the neighborhood. The ripple effect of her gentle forgiving ways, loving guidance, humor, and inspiration will be felt in all the generations to come. When a loved one passes, there is in her survivor's lives a certain sadness and grief, which is eventually resolved by the recurring memories of that loved one, who then takes a deserved place again as a virtual companion in her survivor's futures. We, her family, are blessed by God to have had her in our lives.

  3. 8.  Marion Allene REICH Descendancy chart to this point (3.Louella2, 1.Elise1) was born on 19 May 1924 in Moravia, Appanoose County, Iowa; died on 31 May 2013 in Washington.

    Notes:

As Allene, she was 15 years old in the 1940 census.

In the 1943 Colorado Springs city directory, she was a student at Colorado College. She and her sister lived at 1029 N Nevada Avenue.

    Her obit:

Capturing the spirit of Allene Reich Robson in a few words is an impossible task. Quiet and unassuming, she nonetheless engaged fully with life from her first breath to her last, with myriad interests and a heart full of love. To describe her as a mother and homemaker and the person who managed the payroll for the family business doesn't begin to represent her. For decades, she enhanced church choirs with her beautiful voice, in addition to singing (and whistling) around the house, and also sang in a barbershop group. She didn't just sew; she quilted and tailored. She didn't just garden; she donated years of service to the Chicago Botanic Garden and, after moving to Washington in 1994, coordinated and hosted the Olympic Manor Garden Club sale, which provided scholarships for horticultural students at Edmonds Community College. She belonged to, and was an officer, in PEO, a philanthropic organization that supports women's education, aspirations, and achievement. Years of participating in Know Your Chicago programs, sponsored by the University of Chicago, gave her a wide and deep view of social issues, about which she cared profoundly. As a deacon at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ballard, she accepted a variety of responsibilities, small and large. Always open to learning, she unfailingly characterized her accomplishments as nothing special.

Born in Moravia, Iowa, Allene experienced the lows of the Depression with a family that blew out of the Oklahoma dust bowl to land in Taos, New Mexico, where they began to build a new life. Taos remained important in the family narrative, and in 2008, Allene and her older sister, Virginia Reich Martin, made a trip to Taos with their daughters. From Taos the family moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where they established a restaurant called the Log Cabin Inn and later a lumberyard. After high school, she graduated from Colorado College with a degree in business affairs, money, and banking (her father's choice: she later said she would have loved to have been a children's librarian). Her background in practical matters, along with her Depression experiences, gave her the ability to manage money in two family businesses and for the household. She understood stocks as well as apples, and how to choose good ones in both cases.

Her children and grandchildren knew her as a reliable source of unconditional love, clear and thoughtful and accepting in a way that let them know she perceived their greatest potential, whether it had been manifested yet or not. We will miss her so much.

The daughter of Herschel Willard Reich and Louella Bertine Ellingboe Reich, Allene married William Wallace Robson, Jr., in 1947, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before he died in 2005. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Robson and Meg Robson Mahoney, her son-in-law Jake Mahoney, and three grandchildren, Rebekah Robson-May, Corey Caitlin Mahoney, and Conor Robson Mahoney. Remembrances may be made to Doctors without Borders, Feed the Children, or Evergreen Healthcare Hospice. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?pid=165248136#fbLoggedOut
