  1. 1.  Mathilda Charlotta LUNDBERG was born on 5 Jan 1882 in Långaryd, Hallands län, Sweden; died on 13 Oct 1950 in Marion County, Oregon; was buried in City View Cemetery, Salem, Marion County, Oregon.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Oregon Death Certificate: 10916

    Notes:

Her birth date of 5 January 1882, the birth date on her gravestone, is not possible, given her brother Johan’s birth date which we have confirmed. She is shown as 29 in the 1910 census, 38 in the 1920 census, 48 in the 1930 census, and 58 in the 1940 census. None of these ages suggest a birthdate that would be consistent with Johan’s. Not included in the Swedish birth index of 1880-1920. Mathilda Charlotta may have been adopted.

Not born in Torup. Seems like, in Jan’s source of an 1890 census, “Laijerge.” That also seems to be the family’s home parish at the time.

Could not find her in the 1900 census.

Shown in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses as having come to the U. S. in 1896.

Jan found a border-crossing record for Johan August Lunberg visiting his daughter Mrs. Charles Okman in April of 1928. At that time, Gus was living in Naicam and was crossing at Eastport, Idaho. He expected to spend six months in “Salmon”, Oregon.

In the 1930 census, she and Laverne were living on Route #3 in the Liberty election precinct of Marion County, Oregon. By then, she was a widow and was living in house that she owned that was worth $2500. Neither she nor Laverne are shown as having an occupation.

In the 1940 census, Mathilda lives alone in the Liberty precinct of Marion County in a house that she owns that is worth $800. She had an eighth-grade education and no occupation.

This is the date on her gravestone and in the Oregon death index. Another source says 30 January 1950.
