    Notes:

    Baptismal sponsors for Ole were Tollev Olsson, Ole Tollevson, Ole Endresson, Marith Jögersdatter, and Randi Larsdotter, all (apparently) of Ellingboe farm. (See p. 47.)

    The records of the Norway Lake Lutheran churches in Kandiyohi County show: “Ole Ellingboe, born in Bang, Balders. Came with his mother to Goodhue County in 1862 and to Norway Lake in 1868. Married Maria H. Gandrud, born in Spring Grove, Minnesota.”

    As a young single man, he was a charter member of the West Norway Lake Lutheran Church.

    He was a farmer in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1900 census. Came to the U.S. in 1862.

    Claretta is not listed with the family in the 1905 census but an 18 year-old Martin Ellingboe is, as is a 28 year-old Alice Olson, servant.

    In the 1910 census he was a farmer in Kerkhoven Twp. The household consisted of Ole, 53, Maria, 41, Herbert O., 14, Cornell M., 8, and a servant named Carl Hagen, 23. The couple had been married for 15 years. This was his 2nd marriage, her first. Ole came to the U.S. in 1862.

    He is still farming in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1920 census.

    He resided at Route 1, Sunburg, at the time of his death. His wife Mary was the informant for his death certificate. He died from stomach cancer. An exploratory surgery had been performed the previous April.

    The will record for Ole O Ellingboe is recorded in the Swift County Will Records, Volume 003, 1920-1939, will year 1932.

    In the 1909 Minneapolis city directory, he was Martin O Ellingboe, a machine operator residing at 264 20th Avenue South.

    By the time of the 1910 census, Martin and Alette and Myrtle are living with her parents in Norway Lake Twp, Kandiyohi County. Martin is a laborer doing odd jobs.

    He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Bowman County, North Dakota, where he was a self-employed farmer with a wife and 3 children under 12. He gave his address as Griffin, North Dakota, and stated that he was born in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

    In a 1917 North Dakota land ownership map, Martin O Ellingboe owned 320 acres in Marion Twp in Bowman County, North Dakota. He owned the southeast corner of Section 21 and the southwest corner of Section 22. The latter quarter-section contained the school.

    In the 1920 and 1930 censuses, as well as the 1915 and 1925 state censuses, he was a farmer in Marion Twp, Bowman County, North Dakota.

    In the 1940 census, he and Alletta live on their farm in Marion Twp, Bowman County, North Dakota.

    He and Aletta were still in Marion in the 1950 census. Their household includes a live-in maid and a hired hand for the farm.

    His death certificate information says that Martin was a widower when he died.

He claimed a brother as dependent on him for his sole support. He claimed exemption from the draft on the grounds that he was helping his father on the farm. He was of medium height with blue eyes and dark hair.

    He did serve in France and was wounded in the battle of Chateau Thierry. He returned home to the Willmar area on May 8, 1919.

    In the 1940 census, Herbert, Cornell, Myrtle, and Mary (”mother”) lived on a farm in Kerkhoven Twp. Myrtle, with two years of high school, was a postmaster. Mary had had zero years of education, Herbert seven and Cornell eight.

    His will is recorded in the Swift County Will Records, Volume 001, 1976-1982, for the will year 1979.
