    Notes:

He first emigrated from Norway in June of 1885 according to the Vang out-migration record.

He advertised in the St. Paul Globe in May, 1889, as “a steady young man wants a position in a jewelry store.”

From the Emigrantar over Bergen frå Austlande, on August 26, 1898: three unmarried individuals who were born in Vang i Valdres but were returning to their home in Minneapolis after a visit departed on the Stjernelinjen line. The three were: Britha Larsen Kvale, 26, b. 1872 (#11616), occupation syerske (seamstress), Rangdi Tollefsen Ellingbø, 28, b. 1870, occupation syerske, and Jørgen Tollefsen Ellingbø, 31, b. 1867, occupation juveler.

In the 1900 U. S. census, Rangdi (b. June 1872) and Jorger Ellingbo (b. July 1867), brother and sister, are living with their newly-arrived niece, Mary Ellingboe (b. June 1883), at 1425 Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. Rangdi is a seamstress, Jorger is a jeweler, and Mary has no occupation. Jorger originally came to the U. S. in 1885 and Rangdi in 1890.

He is the Joger Ellingbo, jeweler, single, living in Minneapolis at 1425 Franklin with his sister Rangdi and his niece Mary in the 1900 census. He came to the U.S. in 1885. The Vang parish emigration record shows his departure as 13 June 1885 to “Wisconsin.”

The 1900 Minneapolis city directory shows him as Joger T Ellingbo, a jeweler at 1411 Franklin, residing at 1425 Franklin. Also recorded at that address were his sister Rangdi and Thrond A Ellingbo, a student at U C Sem.

In the 1901 Minneapolis city directory, he is a jeweler at 1411 East Franklin, residing at 1425 East Franklin. Residing with him at 1425 E Franklin are Ole O, Marit A, and Rangdi T Ellingbo.

In the 1905 state census, he and Olina live at 1427 E Franklin in Minneapolis. He is a jeweler and has been in the state for 18 years and 10 months, 7 years in the current enumeration district. She has been in the state and area for 3 years. He was at that same address at the time of the birth of his daughter in July of 1906.

He is probably the Joger T. Ellingboe who attended the St. Olaf Academy 1888-1889.

He is not listed in the 1888-1889 Minneapolis city directory. In the 1890-1891 Minneapolis City directory, Jøger (as Joger T Ellingboe) resides at 111 Island Avenue and is a jeweler for Adolph Leber. Note that this is the same address as his first cousin, Ole A Kvam (#3068), who was a watchmaker for W C Leber.

In the 1892-1893 Minneapolis city directory, he is listed as Joger T. Ellingboe, jeweler for G S Greenleaf and he boards at 169 Nicollet.

The 1894-1895 Minneapolis city directory records two Ellingboes as follows:
Andrew Ellingboe (#11897, Jøger’s nephew), clerk for J T Ellingboe, rms at 45 Washington Ave. S.
Joger T Ellingboe, mnfg jeweler, 45 Wash’n Ave. S., rms same.
(There is also a Miranda Ellingboe, a tailoress for Altman and Co., boarding at 803 N. Bryant Ave.)

The 1895-1896 Minneapolis city directory shows three Ellingboes as follows:
    Andrew Ellingboe (#11897), clerk J T Ellingboe, rms 45 Washington Ave. S.
Andrew Ellingboe (#6481), machinist, Minneapolis Threshing Machine Co., resides in Hopkins.
Joger T Ellingboe, mnfg jeweler 45 Washington Ave. S. rms same.
(There is also an Andrew Ellenboe, a painter boarding at 409 1st Ave. S.)

Jøger and his wife were guests at the Ellingboe farm in New Market, Scott County, in the 1906-1908 timeframe.

He is probably the “J T Ellingboe Minneapolis” listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books). His entry shows that he was a member of the Samband between 1902 and 1910 but he was involved with the Valdris community in the Twin Cities earlier than that. The Valdris Book also lists him as one of the three-person organizing committee of the first “Valdrisstevne” that took place at Minnehaha Falls on June 25, 1899.

In the 1908 Minneapolis city directory, he is a jeweler at 1411 Franklin, residing at 2313 14th Avenue S.

The 1909 Minneapolis city directory has Joger T Ellingbo boarding at 2428 Elliot Avenue.

Jøger apparently went back to Norway to marry his 2nd wife. The manifest of the Helling Olav, which sailed from Oslo on April 21, 1911, included Jøger, his daughter Mildred, and Bertha, “wife”, age 28. All three were shown as United States citizens. Perhaps Bertha became one by marrying Jøger. The Hellig Olav arrived in New York on May 3, 1911. Digitalarkivet does not contain the Vang marriage records for 1911.

By July of 1911, he was a jeweler at 446 Washington in Portland, Oregon.

In the 1913 Portland city directory, he is a jeweler at 620½ Alberta, residing at 1181 E 26th Ave N.

In the 1914 Portland city directory, he is still in business at 620½ Alberta. He and Bertha reside at 1181 E 26th N.

In the 1917 and 1918 and 1920 and 1921 and 1923 and 1924 Portland directories, his business is at 662 Alberta. He and Bertha reside at 1181 E 26th N.

In the 1920 census, he is “Goger” Ellingbo, a watchmaker/jeweler living in Portland, Oregon with his wife (Bertha, 36) and daughter (E Mildred, 13).

In the 1926 city directory, he is a jeweler at 741 Alberta. He and Bertha still live at 1181 E 26th N.

    In the 1928 and 1930 city directory, he is a watchmaker at 46 23rd N. Residence still at 1181 E 26th N.

In the 1930 census, he is Joger T. He is a watchmaker with his own shop and he and Bertha live in Portland.

In the 1934 Portland city directory, he is a watchmaker. Bertha is not listed with him. His business is at 10 NW 23rd Avenue. His residence is at 5707 NE 36th Avenue.

In the 1940 census, he is living next door to his daughter, Mildred Kolmayer and her family. He is shown as age 72, a widower, and a retired jeweller. He was born in Norway and had been educated through the 8th grade.

Jim says that Jøger had one son and one daughter.

His obit was in the Saturday, April 24, 1943, edition of The Oregonian:
