LaVonne Peterson, 90, of Aberdeen and formerly of Roslyn passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen.
LaVonne Jensen-Peterson, the youngest daughter of Elmer and Elma (Rubel) Rovang, was born April 13, 1930 in Fergus Falls, MN. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran in Fergus Falls. Her family moved to Roslyn, SD when she was a child. She attended school in Roslyn and was confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church. She was married to Marlyn Jensen in 1947 at Roslyn and lived at rural Roslyn where she was a homemaker. To this union were born four children, Margaret, Marlene, Michael and Marty. They moved to Roslyn after Marlyn’s health failed. In 1982 Marlyn passed away. She then attended nursing school in Watertown and graduated as an LPN.
She married Harold Peterson of Aberdeen in 1995. They resided in Aberdeen and spent a few winters in Arizona. Harold passed away in 2016. She worked in healthcare until her retirement.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen where she was involved in ladies circle groups. She was an excellent seamstress, and also an excellent cook who enjoyed making jellies and jams to give to family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and rarely missed watching their games.
She is survived by daughters: Margaret (John) Sumption of Frederick, and Marlene (Ken) McGaughey of Broken Bow, NE; sons: Michael (Carol) Jensen of Sisseton and Marty (Val) Jensen of Britton; and stepson Tim (Charlene) Peterson of Spearfish and step daughter-in-law Sandie Peterson of Rapid City. Grandsons: Chris, Eric, Mark, Taylor, and Warren Sumption, John, Will, and Clint Jordan, Christian Jensen and Thad Jensen. Granddaughters: Josie Jakeway, Jennifer Beck, Amanda Roth, and Courtney Paulson, step-grandchildren: Garret and Ryan Thompson, Justin Tchida, Sarah Vigoren, Megan Lackey, Christine Peterson, Bill Peterson, Ryan Peterson, and Nikki Kachelmyer; many great grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Thelma Monshaugen and sister-in-law Arlette Jensen and many nieces and nephews.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Marlyn Jensen, Harold Peterson, and stepson Terry Peterson; sisters: Winnefred Opsahl, and Arlene Carlson; brothers: Wesley Rovang and Donald Rovang; brothers-in-law: Alfred Monshaugen, L. James Opsahl, Vernie, Carlson, and Donald Jensen; sister-in-law Charlotte Rovang, nephew James Opsahl, and infant twin great grandsons
