LaVaughn Emma Naomi Benson BlagsvedtAge 87 of Rushford, MN, died peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Valley View Healthcare Center, Houston, MN.

LaVaughn was born April 1, 1928 in Houston County, MN to Gilbert and Emma (Traaen) Vick. LaVaughn grew up in Lanesboro and lived her adult life in Rushford. She had 4 sisters; Gladys, Verna, Evelyn, and Norma and 4 brothers; Nels, Clifford, Norman, and Clifton. She married Vernon Benson and was blessed with 6 children; Terry (Linda) Benson of Rhode Island, Sheila Cheeks of Winona, Dennis (Pat) Benson of Fountain City, Duane Benson of Winona, Kenneth (Carol) Benson of Rushford, and Nancy Benson of Winona.

LaVaughn was very dedicated to her family, work, and organizations. She was the second person hired at Rush Products and worked there for 29 years until she retired in 1993. After retirement she volunteered as a driver for SEMCAC for another 15 years. She was also active in the Women's Auxiliary at the VFW and she loved to dance with her sister Norma.

LaVaughn is survived by her 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon; second husband Milford Blagsvedt; her 8 siblings, and her special granddaughter, Teresa (Benson) Knutson.

Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Monday, October 26 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service with a Funeral Service Tuesday October, 27 at 11 AM at Rushford Lutheran Church. Interment at Rushford Lutheran Cemtery.

Sheila Diane Benson Cheeks, 68, of Winona, MN died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Ostrander Nursing Home, Ostrander, MN.

Sheila Diane Benson was born September 3, 1947 to Vernon and LaVaughn (Vick) Benson in Lanesboro, MN. She was raised in Rushford, MN. Sheila married Robert P. Cheeks and they were later divorced. During their marriage, the couple lived in various countries and states, while Robert was in the service. They mainly lived in Illinois where Sheila worked for 6 Flags in Gurnee, IL.

Sheila was a big Minnesota Vikings fan. She always wore purple and would frequently visit Mankato, MN to attend Viking training camp. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

Sheila is survived by her son James Cheeks, Winona, MN; her sister Nancy Benson, Winona, MN; four brothers, Terry (Linda) Benson, Foster, RI, Dennis (Pat) Benson, Fountain City, WI, Duane Benson, Winona, MN, Kenneth (Carol) Benson, Rushford, MN; her grandchildren, Nick and Cole Knutson and Zayden Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter Teresa Benson Knutson.

Lyle Richard Rostad, 89, of Rochester, passed away on March 21, 2018, of natural causes at Saint Marys Hospital.

Lyle was born in 1929, born on Skifton farm in Black Hammer Township, Houston County. On March 16, 1962, he married Karen Ann Wheeler in Rochester, at Zumbro Lutheran Church.

He was pulled out of school after the eighth grade to work on the farm. He was drafted into the Army and given an honorable discharge in September 1951. He moved to Rochester in 1954 and started work at a filling station. In 1957, he started work at Dayton's department store and retired in 1991, after 34 years.

As a youth, Lyle played for the Black Hammer baseball team. As a young man, he liked to play on the Rochester bowling leagues. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 249. For 35 years, he was in charge of the clothing drive for Lutheran world relief at Zumbro Lutheran Church and enjoyed many decades of ushering and greeting and assisting with communion.

He was fascinated with cardinals and enjoyed collecting agates and coins. He played the accordion and the organ. He taught his daughter, Jody, at a young age how to play "You Are My Sunshine" on the organ and it was still Lyle and Jody's song and forever will be. After Lyle's retirement, his daughter had a horrible car accident in 1995. He devoted his time to caring for her until he could no more. Lyle's biggest accomplishment was being the greatest father.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Rostad; children, Les Richard (April) Rostad of Rochester and Jody Marie Rostad Gladson; three grandchildren, Sonja Ann Rostad of Minneapolis, Bjorn Michael Rostad of Rochester, and Freya Christine Rostad of Rochester; sisters, Elmira Steigerwald of Austin, Arlene Bain of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Judy Baumach of Wautoma, Wis.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one son.

Lyle was a Korean War veteran.

Teresa A. Knutson, 40, of Rushford, died on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at her home due to a recently diagnosed heart condition.

Teresa Ann Benson was born on December 7, 1967, in Winona, Minn. She was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1986. Teresa is a graduate of Winona State University. On April 29, 1989, she married Roger Knutson in Rushford. Teresa worked as a human resource manager at 3M for 14 years. During her time at 3M she lived in Hastings, New Ulm, and Hutchinson, Minn., and Osceola and Bloomer Wis. In 2004, Teresa moved to Rushford when she became a human resource manager at Composite Products Inc. in Winona. She enjoyed golfing, scrapbooking and most of all spending time with her boys.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Roger; two sons: Nick and Cole Knutson, both at home; mother, Sheila Cheeks of Winona; maternal grandmother, LaVaughn Blagsvedt of Rushford; a brother, James Cheeks of Winona; mother and father-in-law, Stan and Ruth Knutson of Caledonia; brother-in-law, Brian (Brenda) Knutson of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Lorna (Ray) Calvert of Brunswick, Georgia, and Joan Dugstad of Rochester; four nephews, two nieces, and one great-niece.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Jody Marie (Rostad) Gladson, 47, of Rochester, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester.
Jody Marie Rostad was born on May 17, 1971, in Rochester to Lyle and Karen (Wheeler) Rostad. After high school, she went on to become a home health aide. On Feb. 14, 1997, she was united in marriage to David Bruce Gladson of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Jody is survived by her mother, Karen of Rochester, Minn., and mother-in-law, Lois (Shike) Gladson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Les (April) Rostad of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Deb) Gladson and Larry (Julie) Gladson, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Sonya, Freya and Bjorn Rostad of Rochester, Minn., Lindsay (Ben) Blood and children Kaelynne and Ryker of Marion, Kim (Nick) Kray and children Jackson and Nora of Olathe, Kan., Matt (Erica) Gladson of Palo and Marc (Carolyn) Gladson of Cedar Rapids.
