    Wayne Kay Bestor was born on Sunday, December 13, 1931, in Bristol Township of Fillmore County, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Granger, Minnesota. He was a 1950 graduate of Harmony High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1954. On September 10, 1955, Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Hermanson. He worked for IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, for several years. Wayne then attended Coleman Technical School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he received his certification as a mechanical draftsman. He then worked for Trane Company as a draftsman for 26 years until his retirement in January of 1994. In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed golfing, woodworking, making gun stocks, hunting, taxiing his grandchildren around, and often visiting his parents in Granger.

    Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna; five children: Rosie (Kevin) Paulson, Brad Bestor, Vicki (Grant) Olson, Tammy (Greg) Boldt, and Stacy Vix, all of Houston; twelve grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; five great-great-grandchildren; six siblings: Wanda, Georgia, Verlaine, Dallas (Connie), Cheryl (Tom), and Susie; brother-in law, Roger Hanson; sister-in-law, Naomi Wangen; brother-in-law who Wayne considered a brother, Ben Hermanson; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; four children: Allan and three who died in infancy; and by two siblings: Carylann and Garth.

    Notes:

    In early 1979 he was sentenced to not more than three years in prison for two charges of aggravated forgery. The forgery incidents, passing forged checks, occurred in May of 1978. In the sentencing hearing, the county attorney noted, in reference to Bestor’s juvenile record, that Bestor had been a “significant problem” in the courts for six years. The county attorney also noted that Bestor had recently been undergoing treatment at a chemical dependency unit (CDU) at the Rochester state hospital while on probabation for a prior conviction in Houston County. He had been kicked out of that CDU after being caught smoking marijuana and was later taken into custody in Iowa.

    Arrested for burglary and felony theft in 1981 for a March 31 break-in at a residence in Money Creek, Houston County, Minnesota.
