    Wayne Kay Bestor was born on Sunday, December 13, 1931, in Bristol Township of Fillmore County, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Granger, Minnesota. He was a 1950 graduate of Harmony High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1954. On September 10, 1955, Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Hermanson. He worked for IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, for several years. Wayne then attended Coleman Technical School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he received his certification as a mechanical draftsman. He then worked for Trane Company as a draftsman for 26 years until his retirement in January of 1994. In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed golfing, woodworking, making gun stocks, hunting, taxiing his grandchildren around, and often visiting his parents in Granger.

    Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna; five children: Rosie (Kevin) Paulson, Brad Bestor, Vicki (Grant) Olson, Tammy (Greg) Boldt, and Stacy Vix, all of Houston; twelve grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; five great-great-grandchildren; six siblings: Wanda, Georgia, Verlaine, Dallas (Connie), Cheryl (Tom), and Susie; brother-in law, Roger Hanson; sister-in-law, Naomi Wangen; brother-in-law who Wayne considered a brother, Ben Hermanson; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; four children: Allan and three who died in infancy; and by two siblings: Carylann and Garth.

    Garth Merwyn Bestor, 79, of Harmony, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

    He was born to Verl and Gertrude "Gertie" (Hovey) Bestor in Granger on Nov. 13, 1934. He spent his entire life living in the Harmony/Granger area with the exception of his time spent as an aircraft electrician in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1961. He spent a good deal of his service stationed in Japan. After his service, he worked as a plumber for Broadwater Plumbing and Heating in Harmony, before taking over the business in 1985 and running it as Bestor Plumbing and Heating until he sold it upon his retirement. He married Shirley "Sally" (Sandvik) Engle of Harmony in 1961 and became a loving stepfather to Terry Engle of Harmony, DebRae Sandvik (Engle) of Granger, and Douglas (Mary Jo) Engle of rural Cresco, Iowa. Together with Sally, they had three more children, Ty (Dacia) Bestor of Harmony, Tonya Bestor of McHenry, Ill., and Chad (Jill) Bestor of Kenai, Alaska.

    Living in his country home six miles west of Harmony, Garth enjoyed spending his time doing anything outside: hunting, going to the boundary waters to fish in the summer, and, in his later years, playing with his two dogs, Buddy and Sam. He could also be found playing cards with the guys at the Co-op in Granger on a regular basis.

    Garth is survived by his two brothers, Wayne (Donna) Bestor of Houston and Dallas (Connie) Bestor of Cresco, Iowa; his five sisters, Wanda House of Spring Valley, Verlaine Wilson of Cresco, Iowa, Georgia Hermanson of Harmony, Cheryl (Tom) Otteson of Decorah, Iowa and Susan (Gerri) Matson of Jefferson City, Mo.; his brothers-in-law, Keith (Betty) Sandvik of Rochester and Roger Hanson of Harmony; his six children; his six grandchildren, David, Jarid (Lindsi) and Travis "TJ" Engle, and Taylor (Kathryn), Whitney, and Blair Bestor; and, most recently, his great-granddaughter, Kymber Luna Bestor (Taylor).

    Garth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sally, his brothers-in-law, Bud Hermanson and Lloyd House, and his sister, preceded in death by section, it mentions a sister, Carol-Ann Hanson; her name should be spelled Caryl-Ann Hanson. Hanson of Harmony.

    Caryl Ann was born February 21, 1946 in Granger, Minnesota, the daughter of Verl and Gertrude (Hovey) Bestor. She married Robert Anderson in 1962, he preceded her in death in 1964. She later married Roger Hanson on January 11, 1974. Caryl Ann worked as a Medical Transcriptionist; first in Spring Valley, MN for 8 years, then at the Harmony Community Hospital for 22 years and most recently at Mayo Medical Clinic in Rochester for 13 years. She was a longtime member of Greenfield Lutheran Church and was active in many church activities. Her grandchildren’s activities were a big part of her life, she also enjoyed country music, having coffee and visiting with family and friends.

    Caryl Ann is survived by her husband, Roger Hanson of Harmony; 4 children: Kevin Anderson of Granger, James (Lesa) Hellem of Harmony, Jodi (Jerry) Bergey of Lansboro and Tricia (Scott) Heim of St. Charles; 7 grandchildren: Courtney, Josh (Kelsey), Luke, Katrina and Madelyn Bergey, Stacia and Ashlyn Heim; 8 siblings: Wanda House of Spring Valley, Wayne (Donna) Bestor of Houston, Garth Bestor of Harmony, Verlaine Wilson of Cresco, Georgia Hermanson of Harmony, Dallas (Connie) Bestor of Cresco, Cheryl (Tom) Otteson of Decorah, Susan (Gerri) Matson of Jefferson City, MO, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Robert Anderson, and one granddaughter, Erica Heim.

    In early 1979 he was sentenced to not more than three years in prison for two charges of aggravated forgery. The forgery incidents, passing forged checks, occurred in May of 1978. In the sentencing hearing, the county attorney noted, in reference to Bestor’s juvenile record, that Bestor had been a “significant problem” in the courts for six years. The county attorney also noted that Bestor had recently been undergoing treatment at a chemical dependency unit (CDU) at the Rochester state hospital while on probabation for a prior conviction in Houston County. He had been kicked out of that CDU after being caught smoking marijuana and was later taken into custody in Iowa.
