Lockrem was born in Norway in 1831; immigrated in 1849 and settled in Dane County, Wisconsin, afterward worked at tinner’s trade in Chicago, Cambridge and Janesville; moved to Independence, Iowa, and followed his trade three years. In 1856 he began farming in Rice County, Minnesota, and ten years later moved to Goodhue County; in 1873 he came to this town and bought 160 acres on section 36. He has held various town offices in this and other counties. In 1858 he married Gertrude Lien in Rice County; they have nine children living.

Iver Lockrem was born at Valders, Norway, Feb. 2, 1840, and died at his home in Northfield Thursday morning, March 27, 1919. Death was due to old age. Mr. Lockrem came to America in 1849 and settled in Wisconsin where he lived for some time, later making his home near Decorah, Iowa. In 1855, he moved to Rice county and occupied a farm at Valley Grove where he lived until twelve years ago when he came to Northfield to live. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Minnie Lockrem and Mrs. Ole Telle of Valley Grove, a brother, Lars Lockrem of St. Paul, a sister, Elizabeth Johnson of Spokane, Wash., and five grandchildren. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Nils Kleven, will be held from the home at 9:30 a.m. and at St. Johns church at 10 a.m. Monday.

This Andrew had an older brother, also named Andrew Claudius, who was born 15 Jan 1860 and died 28 Jan 1860. This 1863 Andrew also had a younger brother Andrew, b. 12 Aug 1865, d. 5 Jan 1898.

Funeral Service on Tuesday For Mrs. Julia Hougen, 72 After a week's illness, Mrs. Julia Hougen, Town of Liberty resident, died Saturday night at the hospital here. She was 72.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the homestead, two miles west of Valders, and at 2:30 p.m. from Our Savior church at Valders.
The deceased whose maiden name was Julia Thompson Berge, was born in Norway in 1862 and came to this country at an early age. She was married in Liberty in 1881 to Thorval Hougen and they took up their home on the present farm.
Survivors are the husband, five daughters, Mrs. R. M. Olbeper, Clayton, N.M., Mrs. A. F. Fleming, Hollister, Okla., Mrs. Ray DuVall, Fort Atkinson, Mrs. Bennett Torrison, Rockland, and Mrs. Henry Miller, Milwaukee; four sons, Christian, Bennett and Henry, all of Cato and Anton of Texas, and 16 grandchildren.

Survivors include a son Alton of Rt. 2, Reedsville; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Ellen) Bieberitz, of Valders and Mrs. Lloyd (Verna Mae) Voigt, of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Jessie (Minnie) Flemming, of Frederick, Okla., Mrs. Mabel DeVall of the state of Washington, Mrs. Nora Torrison, of Manitowoc, Mrs. Henry (Gladys) Miller, of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Three sons, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

During her years, Lillian, whom had a special preference for her nickname “Tiger Lil”, worked a variety of jobs including waitressing at the restaurant in Hanley Falls, Hardees in Granite Falls, the Hanley Falls Liquor Store, farming with her husband, and her most important job, raising her children.
A woman of diverse interests and talents, Tiger Lil enjoyed golfing and bowling in her ladies and couples’ bowling league. A fun and lively lady, she adored all Elvis songs, square dancing, trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and numerous other places, casinos, and gambling. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lillian was an active member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Ladies’ Aide group for many years. When her dementia progressed, she moved to Boulder Creek Assisted Living in Marshall where she lived for five years before moving to her final home at Prairie Home Fieldcrest in Cottonwood on July 1, 2020.
Lillian died on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the age of 81, surrounded by family at Prairie Home Fieldcrest in Cottonwood. She is preceded in death by husband, Gerald; parents, Tom & Lydia; an infant daughter; son, Brian; grandson, Robert; sister, Marlys Scherer, and brother, Edwin Thostenson.
She is survived by three sons: Allen of Minneapolis/Hanley Falls, Gary (Judy) of Hanley Falls, and David (Erin) of New Hope; grandchildren, Arron (Kristy) Enger, Christina Enger, Wyatt Enger, Jess (Lance) Citrowske, Jamie (Galen) Lanners, Holly (Tyler) Kanten, Travis (Emily) Enger, and Brady Enger; great-grandchildren, Rhett, Kincade, and Rhiannon Enger, Jasper Enger, Lane, Liam, Lenox, Lily, and Lanora Citrowske, Ella and Ariana Lanners, Mason Sherod, Journey and Willow Kanten, Hadley and Abram Enger; brother, Gaylen (Wanyce) Thostenson, brother-in-law, Fran Scherer, and special friend, Arlan Gustafson.

Alton Hougen, 62, of Rt. 2, Reedsville, died Friday morning at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. The Rev. Carl Peters will officiate with burial in Our Savior Cemetery, Valders.
Mr. Hougen was born Jan. 8, 1914, in the Town of Cato, son of the late Christian and Etta Torrison Hougen. He attended Valders schools and was a farmer. He was also employed at Voigt Lumber Co. and Valders Oil Co.
He married May Schurr Sept. 30, 1944, at Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in January of 1973. He married Frieda Bruss March 21, 1975, at Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David, of Sheboygan, and Dennis, of Howards Grove; three step-sons; two sisters, Mrs. Ted (Ellen) Bieberitz, of Valders and Mrs. Lloyd (Vera Mae) Voigt, of Manitowoc, and nine grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in death.

Ellen G. Bieberitz, age 93, of 338 N. Jackson Street, Valders, died Monday afternoon, February 20, 2012, at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
She was born on October 27, 1917 in Reedsville, daughter of the late Christian and Etta (Torrison) Hougen. Ellen graduated from Valders High School and then attended Manitowoc County Teachers College. On May 3, 1941 she married Theodore H. Bieberitz in Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1993. Ellen was a teacher in a one room school house in the Valders area for many years. Besides being a loving and devoted mother, Ellen worked many part time jobs. When her children were in school, she went back to teaching at the Valders Elementary School while attending Silver Lake College. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and held the position of the first woman president for the Ladies Aide.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Jay and Inga Bieberitz, Arkansas, Jerold and Ann Bieberitz, rural Valders, Thomas and Gay Bieberitz, Marinette; one daughter and two sons-in-law: Beverly and Victor Schnell, St. Nazianz, Greg Daul, California; nine grandchildren: Ty and Sheree Daul, Trevor and Kathaleen Daul, Kymberly and Gerald Valleskey, Coty Schnell, Christian Schnell, Jerrod and Katie Bieberitz, Derrick Bieberitz, Denin Bieberitz and Maria Bieberitz; and six great-grandchildren: Kahli, Annalise and Indya Daul, Makenna, Alexa and Trentin Bieberitz. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Russelyn Peterson, David and Dennis Hougen and a special thank you to Patti Voigt Maly. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. Ellen was also preceded in death by a daughter: Bette Daul; two brothers: Russel and Alton Hougen and a sister: Verna Mae Voigt.

Bette was born on Jan. 26, 1945, in Manitowoc, daughter of Ellen and the late Ted Bieberitz. She attended school in Valders and graduated from Valders High School in 1963. Bette graduated from the College of Cosmetology in Green Bay and worked at a beauty shop in Madison for several years.
On Sept. 17, 1966, she married Greg Daul at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders. She loved her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband: Greg of Carlsbad, Calif.; two sons and their wives: Ty and Sherree and their daughters: Kahli and Annalise of Portland, Ore.; and Trevor and Kathaleen of Carlsbad; her mother: Ellen Bieberitz of Valders; one sister and brother-in-law: Bev and Victor Schnell of St. Nazianz. She is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law: Jay and Inga Bieberitz of Cherokee Village, Ark.; Jerry and Anne Bieberitz of Valders; and Tom and Gay Bieberitz of Marinette; brothers-in-law and their wives: Dallas and Karen Daul and Jim and Yvonna Daul, all of Portland Ore.; two sisters-in-law and their husbands: Bonnie and John Gryboski of Racine; and Georgia and Stephen Papoi of Indiana; and her mother-in-law: Elaine Daul of Manitowoc. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Bette will be greatly missed by her family and many kind and caring friends and especially her dear husband, Greg Daul.
